Not seen such a huge mileage on this engine...

Love this model of Saab, nowhere near brave enough though.

I've bought two high milers recently. A

2006 Audi A8 4.2 TDI with 209k when I bought it, now has 220k. Everything works apart from the auto boot.

2007 Audi A8L 4.2 TDI with 154k, everything works and looks like new.

Cares these days are amazing, my first car was a heap at 80k.

Why do you need 2 A8s?
(Unless you're a dealer)

What's not to like. I've not been in the 4.2 tdi but believe it is genuinely rapid.

Just £4450 for this 2011 Passat with 228k on the clock - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

Looking at the pictures on the advert... is that back bumper all smashed up?

Good point, I hadn't noticed that originally. Unless they've changed the pictures since I posted previously.

Seems to be more than a slight ripple on the passenger's side too.

I'm not sure the centre caps would have faded like that, huge mileage or not.

What are you thinking? Non original alloys?

Surely if they clocked it they would put it back to 80k or so rather than over 200k.

Mondeo estate local to me on 193,000. Are these engines good for more?

VERY WELL LOOKED AFTERED
hehe

I'm always amused by adverts that make bold claims about condition but the pictures paint completely a different story. Like a fairly obvious rear end shunt.

I would imagine the centre caps are maybe suffering from repeated exposure to the strong chemicals that cheap hand car wash places seem to favour to get wheels looking presentable quickly. Looks like one of them is missing completely though.

I have seen a few on high mileage in taxis etc, but personally I wouldn't touch a TDCI and would buy a petrol one instead. Not worth the risk IMO.

Ok, thanks. Are the TDCI's particularly troublesome, or are the potential issues the usual modern diesel ones (dmf, doc etc)?

Cheers.

Two taxi drivers have told me they are ok for 250-300K then get a new engine - they can't be cost-effectively rebuilt (according to Mr Taxi)

I did quite a bit of research into them a while back (I bought a 1.8) and the general consensus was that they can suffer from pretty much every common diesel issue and they can be particularly troublesome.

There will obviously be some out there that are fine, but the pros seemed to outweigh the cons especially when you consider how cheap and reliable the petrol ones are. They are great cars, I really liked my one.
