Is a MG ZR a hot hatch? better car than the rover 214 underpinning's would suggest...
The ZR 160 with 1.8L VVT I'd consider a Hot hatch, the 1.4's not so much.

I'd probably rather have the R200 BRM though.

Yeah the 160 my 1.4 is a luke warm but decent enough car. And the R200 BRM is okay but the ZR is meant to be a better drive and also about 20bhp more powerful it does lack a bright orange grille however frown

BRM VVC is rated at 143bhp (145PS) and the ZR160 is 158bhp (160PS). But the ZR is heavier. It also doesn't handle as well. Doesn't have as well setup shock/springs, lacks the LSD, the close ratio gearbox, the bigger brake servo and the quick rack steering.

The end result is the ZR160 given the grip is probably quicker 0-60mph. No faster or slower 0-100mph and a lot slower in the corners, especially on a track.

The BRM is as stated above, MEMS2J VVC 143 engine with close ratio LSD gearbox and sexy interior.

ZR160 is a MEMS3 VVC 160 engine with bigger brakes, lower and stiffer suspention, bigger wheels, quicker rack.

I personally preferr the BRM but the 160 is quicker overall and has the ability to be remapped due to the newer engine management system(mems3)

The Bravo HLX was the forgotten car of the range, really.

All the hot hatch money went on the HGT, obviously - and those who didn't want an HGT seemed to go for the smaller engined SX range.

The HLX had the Barchetta / Punto HGT lump, didn't it?
yes

Anyone got a 5.0 V8 AMC Pacer. A few handling mods and a couple of engine tweaks and it'd be quite a 'different' hot hatch I reckon.
rofl

Priceless.

The only way a Pacer could ever be 'hot' is if you torched it.

Daihatsu Storia X4 - a 4WD 713cc turbocharged competition car. I saw one of these on ebay a while back and desparately wanted it, I would still love one, I reckon it would make an amazing year round commuter; small, lightweight, thin little wheels and 4wd would make it good on snowy days and probably quite frugal if driven mostly off boost I suppose with only 713cc it would be pretty slow going when not letting the turbo spool up. I don't think the doubtlessly buzzy engine noise would annoy me either!

I guess hot (warm) hatches I've owned are a bit left-field:

Fiat Uno Turbo

Citroen ZX Volcane

and presently, Volvo C30 T5

You arent the only one who wanted that!

You can get 45-50mpg out of it, can also be tuned up to 200bhp with a factory applied mod.

A chap called Dane Gross had two of them. one at 130bhp with 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and his race one at 196bhp which did 0-60 in 3.4 secs and 0-100mph in 8.9!!!!

I really want one!

The BRM uses a TorSen torque biasing diff, rather than a pure LSD.

Kitch on here has one!! And lovingly looked after too!! Believe he has just recommisoned it, having owned it for its got to be, 7 years plus now!
I've brought this thread to his attention wink
God, i hope he doesn't offer to sell it to me. I would have to buy it, and the wife would kill me.
Finally...it has a purpose!
Same colour as mine was smile

How much do you want for it? hehe

I have one. The compressor version is the real one to get on this thread though. Very few people realise it even exists.

Both are hugely underrated.
