If you don't want to read about people discussing their boredom with Evo then don't go out of your way to click on a thread entitled "Is anyone bored with Evo?", Einstein.

Now run along.

I stopped buying it over two years ago. The writing has gone right downhill.

I stopped subscribing a couple of years ago...but they still post it to me FOC....work that one out. Funnily enough I still don't always read them - dull, but then I think times are changing.

Evo's been st for a few years. I loved in it's earlier stages it seemed more honest and less intrested in image of cars and more about the fun you can have with them. Over the years though it became so predictable and biased and very much about image which i can't stand.

Did anyone else read CAR this month ? The one with the gold cover. What a fantastic mag ! Comparing Schuey's first and latest F1 car, Mini on the worlds highest road, utterly brilliant. I'm a convert.
How can you not condemn it out of hand!! There's several pages of watches in it (Even a 50 best watches of the last 50 years)
It's an excellent mag this month as it usually is but it's a special anniversary edition which helps.

Loved the Setright piece myself

You're all lucky, here in Australia we get a version with added 'Australian' content. Which is just really taking whatever latest car is offered by the manufacturers and praising it completely, even if it's the 'white goods' of the automotive world.

In fact I actually wrote an email complaint to Evo about a month back about a piece written by one Jesse Taylor that was sloppy, lazy, clearly sycophant and just plain poor (Mercedes C250 review, Evo 016 Australia).

Here's some gems taken straight from Mr Taylor's short three column review....

C250... has a class leading interior, carries on the best in class mantle, has a dramatic interior size increase, a class destroying interior, luxurious and welcoming interior, a first impression interior that is so overwhelmingly positive, space style and craftmanship of the interior that really impresses, a better resolved and more contemparily luxurious cabin....

There was only one negative, being the engines are lucklustre but luckily it's not a Merc problem because it's actually Mr Taylor's fault:

Neither engine is particularly engaging but part of the problem is I'm impatient...

No mention of how it handled, how the chassis coped with the road surface, what the steering was like, how it's dynamics, price, features, weight etc. compared to any rival. Basically none of the stuff an EVO reader may be interested in.

Really this review was so cringeworthy I bet even the Merc Press Pack was more balanced(which funnily enough it looked like it was ripped right out of).

Anyhow, perhaps it's because Harry is off doing other things and the whole magazine has become 'corporate'.

I'd love to know what the long time Jorno's who work there think. Bet they're a bit hack'ed* off too but clearly can't say anything to upset the Apple Cart.

Which by the way if Merc is releasing a new Apple Cart next month, they'll be sure to have Mr Taylor buttered up and ready to review it!
It's class leading rough hewn wood interior is bold and contemporary. While cart springs are functional, class leading and 2.4mm longer than last year..etc etc.

I've got a bit bored with Evo now - not as much of interest in it now. Well written but not as good as previously (speaking from having every single copy!)

Well, this months EVO just turned up by post. The Australian edition is 167 pages of which 47 are dedicated to Mercedes. So that's about a third of all the pages (inc ads).

In keeping with current EVO practises, there's no comparisons with alternate models nor are there any real bad points.

The Australian content is just one massive Infomercial....

Hardly ever read it nowadays. It turns up in the post, it sits around the house and then I file it away with all the others.
I have literally just cancelled my DD after being billed again for the next 12 months.
Hopefully they'll stop sending after the next 12 months.

It all just felt a little "samey" if that makes sense.
