Just in case anyone is looking at s2000s as a result of this thread, you may want to be cautious of s2000 4 u based on what has been posted here:

Nearly purchased one yesterday, gutted i didn't as it was a great little drive, had a recent geo, tyres and induction kit/exhaust weld mod.
I loved the drive, was no more snappy than my rev3 MR2 at the pace i was driving (although i imagine pressing on properly would be different) and sounded AWESOME.
However looking at it has highlighted a fraudulent default on my credit report which means letters, phonecalls and a couple of monthsto repair the damagewaiting for them to correct their records. (fk you Experian!)

I was hooning in my old S2000 for 4 years without a single problem.
Lack of torque compared to engines with 6 cylinders is absolutely true. Don't let that lead you to thinking acceleration is pants though. Official 0-60 from Honda was 5.9 and the gearbox is that good you relish redlining it and snapping it into the next gear. I never found lack of torque a problem. In fact I never even gave it a second thought when driving it as it involved you so much.
Never had a leaky roof (mine was kept outside), never had it set up enjoyed every minute of it. Would have another.
Servicing cost was similar to a civic (around £100 at the dealers) and I see far more women driving boggo Boxsters than S2000s

I had a 2006 S2000 for three years and it was brilliant fun - I still miss it badly a year after selling.
I drove it year round and found it okay in the wet (with Toyo T1R tyres, not the Bridgestones) and not the nightmare jump-off-the-road beast many paint it as. A set-up from Center Gravity certainly helped.
The most important thing about the car was the way it made me feel. It would lose at the lights against a modern hot hatch, wouldn't handle like a Lotus Elise down country lanes and was a spectacular miss with the girls ("Oh, you've got a Honda. Is it like a Jazz...?").
Those things didn't matter a jot, though, when you hit 9,000rpm. The lads who drove my car or were a passenger struggled to get a grin off their face! It also never went wrong.
Yes the steering was numb, straight line speed was average and I'm sure that Petrolhead888 is spot-on that other RWD cars are far more tactile in bends. But the S2000 is definitely a PH Hero car...I remember once hammering it out of Derby down a dual carriageway with the airbox lid off and two lads stopping their bikes at the side of the road to wave at me as I went by! That sums it up: it's a car for the big kid lurking inside all of us...

"VTEC y0" is certainly appealing. Was driven round by someone I met at a track day - even though he had no idea what he was doing, stabbing the throttle and braking three times in to a corner etc etc.
However, the interior is so cheap, and empty - at least for the 20 or so minutes I was in it I didn't see a single nice thing (albeit nothing bad either). And being realistic about it, we sometimes just plod along on the motorway and want something comfortable with a decent interior that's quiet and nice to look at/use/be in. Put me off buying one
There were no issues with 'low' torque, there is probably no other 2litre 4pot that produces anywhere near those stats, and is as reliable.

Your right in that the passenger side of the cabin has absolutely nothing on offer, other than a vent. All the controls are pretty much laid out around the wheel, which while excellent for adjusting the cabin heat while keeping your hands on the wheel mean the passenger pretty much gets a slab of dash to look at.However, the interior is so cheap, and empty - at least for the 20 or so minutes I was in it I didn't see a single nice thing (albeit nothing bad either). The obvious fix for this is to own one, other than be a passenger in one!
Funnily enough, the sparse interior was one of my favourite things about the S. I loved it's lack of clutter and the fact that what controls there are in there are pretty much all reachable without taking your hands off the wheel. It's a simplicity a lot of cars could learn from, i've been in some recently that are like the bloody starship enterprise there are so many buttons and dials.
What an absurd thing to moan about in an s2000. If you want a car that looks like its got an Xbox and a Christmas tree stapled to the dashboard go and buy an Audi. The only let down on s2000s is the crappy stereo and that's easily remedied by sticking in an Alpine and some bassbins. Driver focussed controls and display are exactly what you want in a car like this.

To paraphrase Basil Fawlty, what would sir expect to see from the passenger seat of a sports car - the Mona Bleedin Lisa?Welshbeef said:

They need a decent induction kit to get the full 9000rpm sound, this was my first one a few years ago with a K&N FIPK, awesome sound

Great sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y5Zem0s2Jk
What do these things sound like with Spoon engines which rev to 14,000 rpm road legal!!!!!!

roof down, sun's out, blue sky, shades on, zipping along at 7000rpm in 3rd through the countryside - who the hell cares about looking at the dash?
Quite, but I never ride shotgun in my own car so its a moot point. Then again the people who do moan are the same ones who ask for the roof to be put up so it 'doesn't mess up their hair'.Induction/Exhaust - Seems the FIPK with the 'Exhaust mod' on the S2ki forums gives a good combination of induction and exhaust note. I'm currently running the FIPK with stock exhaust, but will probably look at the 37mm pipe mod. Looked at other exhausts, but seen too many complaints of droning.

This was the video that inspired me to get a S2000 and K&N intake!

Nice acoustics and... IMHO, the above vid also demonstrates exemplary RWD handling - 01:35 and 02:15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM6xmjSIfWc
Nor does there seem to be any tricksy handling/snap oversteer during the 'Ring vid below:

Perhaps there are some S2000 'Friday afternoon specials' out there with a completely foocked chassis set-up I upgraded the wheels on that car to the later 17 inch wheels and tyres and it was much much better.
I then bought a facelift and the suspension changes made it better again.
All of this was based on fast road driving, on track, when warm the original bridegestones were good but not as good as when it was on the 17 inch wheels (I didn't track my second one).

Enjoying some winter sunshine in mine yesterday. The car is brilliant but can also be frustrating. However in the right weather on the right roads its magic.
