I would have taken a different tack with the ASA. There are several new & unregistered original DeLoreans available, and it is also possible to buy a new one from a company in Texas. It would have been possible to have supplied the car as described, therefore there is no case to be put by the ASA for Ling to answer.

So after all that crap about the GT86 advert, Toyota could have just turned around, stuck two fingers up to ASA and continued to air it, without any fear of fines or court action?
A bit different, since they do advertise regularly and would have significant issues with a requirement imposed by ASA on supporting media owners to vet Toyota creative before broadcast. Ling's basic argument is that the advert is on her site, and that she doesn't advertise anywhere else anyway. So sanctions can't be enforced on her own site, and she'd lose nothing from their application elsewhere...

Just read the whole ASA thing and omg that was amazing, I haven't laughed so hard in ages as to when she complained about her own Robin Reliant! Brilliant.

ARRSE misses you, come back you crazy woman. We'll support you in your drive to total grobal lease car domination.
And I miss ARRSE. My favourite place. Full of intelligent, eloquent Tommy Atkins squaddies. I did enjoy sponsoring the Blitish Army for a while.

Right. So spend £20,000+ on a shed of a DeLorean, spend another £10k reconditioning it, have all the risk, deal with all the blow-ups and faults, take back a ragged car in 2 years and make no money from it.

What could possibly go wrong with that? smile

Yeah, right. Nine pages of posts before mine, and the person who points out the emperor's clothes is at fault.

What happens when (as in this case) the perpetrator (me) regards censure by the ASA as a badge of honour and sees the listing on their well-respected PageRank5 authoritative site as a free PR exposure and SEO opportunity? The ASA even threaten me with free PR and free SEO: "This will appear as a natural search result on a Google search for ‘Lingscars.com’ so potential customers might see it." ... for me this is a stunning free opportunity on the ASA website, worth £ thousands.
It's true Ling - everyone is fair game for your own ends. You have even exploited charities and pressure groups for your own publicity and when they give you short shrift and there is nothing more you can gain from them the toys come out your pram.

Some of us have known you long enough to know that whoever it was who removed your ban from here has made a mistake.

Anyone who doesn't agree with you is a 'rabble'.

Hmmm, I struggle with this one. Which Charity have I exploited (not counting the Free Tibet Support League, Gateshead branch, who deserved that labour camp sentence anyway)? It wasn't the Burma charity thing was it, where I sent the fuku noodles to the Burmese Ambassador? Or the Fu*k off Fu*kushima charity when I was annoyed the Japs were complaining about a bit of radioactivity?

Which charity have I exploited?

Oh yes **SAFESPEED** are an absolute rabble of lunatic, white, male, middle-aged, "experts" and psychopaths who's sole aim is to prove they can exceed the speed limits safely and they are the world's best drivers. One of them used to be a Police driver. Apparently. It's the BNP and EDL of driving "skills". Pedantic ex-teachers, the odd university professor and loads of buffoons who have been given 3 points for speeding and consider it the legal injustice of the century. They think speed limits are fascist symbols of the devil.

I say "just slow down a bit" to them, or "relax, chill and drive a bit slower" and they go off it, losing all touch with reality.

Absolute nutters and extreme mentalists. SAFESPEED.

Don't go there.

You'll not win people over with that one Ling frown

A lot of good work was done by SS when the war against the motorist on speeding first started, please don't forget that.

....or to put it another way, back in 2006 you weren't as subtle with your forum spamming, and when Paul banned you from his forum for it and you tried to re-register with another account and got caught you took the huff.

Hence the blogpost (I mean, you agree with George Monbiot, really?! laugh)

SAFESPEED... They were (still are?) nutters.

I wrote at the time:

"I have had some experience of SAFE SPEED. I spent a week on their forum fending off their extreme views. The organisation is seriously flawed. It is a single-issue, ego-driven collection of middle class, white, male, “professional”, superior beings. They have hardly no female members, have hardly any non-white members and are led by a cult of personality figure, Paul Smith. They think anyone who is not an enlightened member of Safe Speed is a fool, idiot, road-death-conspiracy-theory-ist, government apologist, fool, dangerous or bad driver, uneducated and a fool."

This is not a charity (or wasn't at the time).

They have about as much effect on rational policy as a dribble of spit on a 3-year old's birthday cake.

Ling

ps, hahahaha, the advert on the SafeSpeed site, below the bit where they talk about a bloke in a camper van dying, is a call to action for "Scrap Speed Cameras Week, 24th-30th June 2007.

Their logo is very right wing. "SS" in the colours of the Nazi party. Very subliminal, that smile

I would avoid them...

Ling

I can't help thinking that all this ranting and bravado will come crashing down on you at some point. As the saying goes, pride comes before a fall, and you seem way too cocky! A bit of candour when touting and doing PR never goes amiss.

It was a direct result of Paul Smith and SafeSpeed's political lobbying that the corrupt hypothecation system of funding Speed Camera 'Partnerships' was dismantled.

Keep digging Ling....
