I think you need to post a picture of the balti past next to the empty Birds custard shelf, just to prove it was actually you in the supermarket. Firstly - disaster....

You lucky, lucky fella! Well done smile Personally I would've gone for another colour but I guess white is the new white this year smile
Do a Reader's Car post if you can.
Thanks. I didn't see another colour I liked. Dark blue/black just looks boring. Grey/Silver is the clitoris colour. Bright blue (Imola?) looks chavvy. Red looks f*cking awful. Some of the individual colours were nice, especially the matt ones, but I just saw a white one and loved it. Shows the shape and gives a 'younger' look.Do a Reader's Car post if you can.

Very nice, I think bmw's pricing was all wrong on these from the start. They are lovely things though!
Possible - but spec a 535d MSport to the same level it is breaks £65k plus delivery costs etc - well within £10k of what mine cost.....and nothing like as nice in or out?Maybe they would have been better giving a lower spec as standard (more commensurate with the 5-series) and charging less as a base price? .....but then BMW used to get slammed for charging for "everything" and including "nothing"?

And in the 1 series with Pro Nav since then too.
Saw it in the 4-series I drove. Didn't realise it was touch-sensitive. Suspect it gets introduced on new MYs?Still think the iDrive is the most intuitive system out there - strange that it was slammed with such vitriol when introduced in the 7 in 2001. The notion of dialling to move vertically being criticised the world across....until Apple coined the same idea with the iPod 2 months later...and the automotive world largely followed BMWs lead.

Car arrives in a couple of days time. My excitement is palpable.
Dont look at the price of a nearly new example as that might take the shine off your day Even 1 year old examples cost more than I've paid for brand new, like for like.
Factor in the PCP and the new car is £10k cheaper and better spec'd than a 12 month old/5000 miles AUC. Gotta love the bargaining power of end of quarter.
- Shining
That's what I call a really well planned 'impulse' buy.
You have the Midas touch for sure.

Do these sound like diesels from inside and out?
On start-up it sounds like a usual BMW 6-cyl diesel, very similar to my old 530d. Not rattly, better than a 4cyl petrol, smoother but slightly noisier hum than a 6-cyl petrol. On the move, it's very different to the 530d. On the inside it's near silent at low revs, builds very smooth as the revs increase then when you really hit the throttle it sounds more like a muted V10.
No idea on the outside - I'm the only one that has driven it so far!

On the 640, just bizarre that the new deals are (or were) so strong. Manufacturers are just very keen to push new car sales. the 640d was probably £5-8k overpriced in any regard, but the level of discount, and silly low APR is just a no-brainer.
Not sure about the midas touch. It's just all about.............timing
Good description, thanks.
At the moment I am wafting in a smooth petrol V8. I pay more for fuel, but suffer only a fraction of the depreciation due to buying used. At the moment I am happy with this trade off. However I may consider an uber diesel in the future, if they prove to be reliable and enjoyable to use. Time will tell...

I'm now on my 4th BMW Diesel - and have to confess, for a daily driver, I'd not look elsewhere. My first was a 2000 BMW 330d Touring, I then went to an M3, an ML500, a 330i, a 335d, a 530d and now the 640d - i did run and Elise then an Exige during the ML/330/335 years too. Never had any form of engine problem with any of the diesels, nor with the petrols apart from the Merc. The drive of this 640d is like a V8. Great power, mad torque - totally effortless but all the performance you would want in a real-world car.At the moment I am wafting in a smooth petrol V8. The loss of the V8 soundtrack (and the straight-six petrol to a lesser extent) is lamentable, but the upsides more than make up for it and the sound of the 640 has made the step a little closer still.

Yes. A bit deeper and and 'throatier'...but that is more than likely the video sound!I like it. Well I like most big cars with large engines to be honest. I'm not sold on the white but then I wouldn't have the cash to buy one in any colour.
Years of driving 'marmite' cars have taught me not to be too derisive of other peoples car choices (driving an 80s Mustang and constantly being told things like "I would have got a '67 Eleanor if I were you" - well obviously I'd have to find another £15k from nowhere but thanks for that expert piece of advice, you utter tit).

Haha I can relate to that. Even leaving the money aside, it's that some people just can't get their heads around the fact that people buy things that take their fancy sometimes!Years of driving 'marmite' cars have taught me not to be too derisive of other peoples car choices (driving an 80s Mustang and constantly being told things like "I would have got a '67 Eleanor if I were you" - well obviously I'd have to find another £15k from nowhere but thanks for that expert piece of advise, you utter tit).
People should keep their opinions to themselves.
