Hi All, I am the guy who was having a whale of a time in the Black XJS no. 44 in the Top Hat & BSSCC races @ Spa. I enjoyed my brief appearance in Phil's video, although I would have featured more if he had a rearward facing camera! If you have any pics of me, or my car, (the more sideways the better) can you let me have them, or post them up please, as I was rather busy? I was also in MG no 59 for the six hour race, the backup car for Daytona!
Good racing, Phil.
Thanks,
Cliff
Hi Cliff,

But the Jag made it and strated 1st (unlike some) when being loaded. Cars to land early the week after next. I assume yopu got the photos of the loading? Glad to hear you had a good time at Spa. IS the MG doing the Birkett this year?

See you in Daytona,

johnny

Hi Jonny, I took the MG home my friends took the XJS to Southampton & have the photo of it being loaded, which they are going to forward to me. I may not be going to Daytona, due to family commitments, but my car is & will be raced by my friends Gary & Ray. We thought that the cars had to be on the boat before Spa, so were going to use the MG @ Spa & the XJS @ Daytona, but I think the loading day got put back, so we took both to Spa, using the MG in the six hour & my XJS in two one hour races.
I am not doing the Birkett, Ray is as part of an XJS team. I will probably do the CTRCC race @ Stowe on the same day in my A35.
Best,
Cliff

wavey Hi Cliff, welcome to PH!

It was only after the race that I found it was you in the XJRS - I enjoyed our tussle! Too right you'd have "starred" in a film had I had a rear facing camera! hehe

Have fun in Daytona - "wish I was going". smile

Good god look at that, never realised you could get that close to a 917K, what a truly brilliant and awesome car, power, lightness, heritage, the car that really delivered.

And to think the 70s are considered 'old' these days..

Definitely going to the next Spa 6 hours!!!!!!
Oh yes yesyesyesyes

I feel the need to dig out the Steve McQueen 'Le Mans' film this evening coming on (particularly as I drove round that circuit last week).

That is the coolest car ever! What is it about Gulf liveried race cars that makes them so gorgeous?

Not in the same league, but very quick for a road car is my l'il Beastie:

Hi Phil, I am a PH virgin, so be gentle with melaugh
That Healey certainly had some power on the straight, I could catch up in the corners, but I only had 6 litres of V12 Jag, so you could outdrag meyuck
Great fun dicing with you and David in the XJ12. cloud9

Goon,

Were you also on the tribunes we see on that pic on Sunday afternoon? There was a guy wearing a 'TVR Thunder' polo shirt not too far from where we were sitting.

Any news Nick, is it pretty fooked then?
Syncro plate on 3rd gear (so not a complete disaster) but still a gearbox strip job.

Thank gawd for manufacturer's warranty smile

The not so fast XJS V12.

Falce bros(?) D-type rep.

Mark catching up.

The winning Aston (2:53) of Scragg. A beast of a car. I wonder what was under the bonnet. Website says 500 brake.

This is a more standard one, great car and a not so obvious colour of choice.

Lots of drivers in this one!

At the 2nd pacecar I missed Phil snapping a car in front of him. I caught the "hello" holler though wink

cool I like the way it is pure 18 litres of engine noise for the first half with music over the second. Shame I had to pull in for fuel (and a slightly worried passenger!)...

Worried? You're a good driver so why was that? I wasn't worried at all, my body was . . .

I did see you step out slightly in that vid. pulling even more g's there were you? Or were the tires a bit off?

If a bit slow...
I agree but one of the problems with cars like these is how other people want to drive like assholes to 'prove' they're quicker than a Lamborghini. The lap was slowed by the grey Mini and the 3-series BMW that I let past, not to mention giving some bikers plenty of space ....and as for that cock in the Boxster....

The Diablo has the pace and its brakes (fabulous on the road but not up to track use) aren't an issue at the 'Ring. The lap after the featured one was a lot better because despite traffic, there were no space cadets driving like thieves behind.

The Audi-engineered Six Litre Diablo is a very well set up car by anybody's standards, a world apart from the earlier versions. As for it being an 'older' Lambo, it's a 2002 car, barely five years old! wink
Interesting video.
From the lack of helemets I assume that was a TF, in which case your 'assholes', 'cock' and 'space cadets' are hardly going to learn from the example of someone who overtakes on the wrong (ie totally illegal) side (at what, 120mph?) on the entry to Schwalbenschwanz are they? If that one had gone wrong you would have been in deep doodoo with the Polizei fella. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you seemed to do it again exiting Galgenkopf.

Yes, dawdlers who won't use their mirrors or move to the right are a PITA but there's no excuse for overtaking on the right.
