OK - forward to me any mail she sent direct to you and I'll have a peek. Forward the mail as an attachment. Right click the mail, save as, and then attach to a mail to me.

I'll post up here what I did so anyone will be able to do it. Use a subject like gassing.

If anyone else wants me to locate them, send a mail too! (Not from gmail!) I'll do the first 5 with gassing as a subject. Please stick your screen names in here in the mail as I don't want to publish your email addresses.

For some reason AOL wouldn't allow to "Save" any messages outside of their programme - or at least I couldn't find how to do it paperbag
I sent them back a less-than-helpful reply and I've heard no more from "Barbara Zola".

Now I just need to shift the car - SHAMELESS PLUG winktongue out

It will be a waste of time reporting to autotrader or similar. They dont give a damn. Happy to take your money, but no interest in policing the service. I had a car advertised on Ebay, then saw my pics & bogus ad on AT. took me 2 days to get it removed. Also search for any car, the cheapest is nearly always a blindingly obvious scam. Why cant they employ 1 person to search & remove them. A schooleaver could do it!. Do they ever pursue & prosecute scammers?. Must be easy, but i doubt that they bother somehow

Thank god I found this website when i googled autotrader scams anglesey. I had the exact same worded email from a "sarah gordon" (sargnd1@gmail.com). Like people said it seemed legitimate to start with although I thought it was weird that "she" asked for more photos when there were 9 already on the website and it doesnt take a genius to click on them to see them! It got weirder and weirder though and so am glad I googled it! This is what I received from newest to oldest...

DETAILS & SHIPPING ARRANGEMENT‏
From: Sarah Gordon (sargnd1@gmail.com)
Sent: 28 December 2009 18:21:36

Good Evening,
I would just like to clarify exactly what i'm asking you to do so that you will really understand everything.
Once i have all your details below to make the payment out to you first thing tomorow morning, i will also send all my details to you as well in returns, in order to complete the V5 Registration document, you will not be sending it or filling it out until thepayment has CLEARED.
You will require my full name and full address ready to fill out section 6 for the 'New Keeper' when the sipping agent arrives.
You shall also fill out section 10 'New Keeper Supplement'

You have to put the registration form in the glove box with the service history and stuff but then said it needed to be sent to the DVLA? I understand that upon completion of the sale you will be sending it immediately to the DVLA and will not leave it with the car.
The only thing you will be happy to leave in the glove box with all the other paperwork is the 'New Keeper Supplement' section 10 at MY discretion. You must retain section 10.

The vehicle would only be released and the title documents once your bank has confirmed the cleared funds." From the moment your bank confirm the money has cleared the amount of £7,200 for the vehicle is yours, and the shipping agent will be available for collection, after you have contacted me to inform me that payment is cleared.
I just want you to be aware that i am deaf,my partner would ring you as soon as the payment has been sent.

The shipping agent and my auto mechanic will make use of the funds left to come down to your location for the pick up arrangements i.e shipping expenses and tax.
You will take the fund left to any nearby local western union agency around you and send it to the shipping agent,i shall provide you their details as soon as the funds is cleared into your bank account.
I shall give you £200 for your efforts and transfer charges

I would give you my full information in advance of who i'm sending and the I.D they will be showing you. I will also give them a photocopy of my driving liciense and 1 other proof of I.D (I.E - Utility Bill) I hope you understand this.

So right now am going to instruct my business associate to send you a payment in total sum of £11,400 in your name and it's going to be post to you via a postal mail which had already cover your asking price and the shipping expenses.
Upon reciept of my email confirming the above details to both our satisfaction.
I'll need your data for the payment, viz;

FULL NAME.... POSTAL ADDRESS.. MOBILE PHONE #.....LAND PHONE #

Many Thanks, I await your response

Cheers
Sarah

Dear Sarah,

Thanks for your email. You mentioned that you had seen the car on the web page? There are nine photographs on there that show the interior and exterior well. Did you see them all as you mentioned only seeing one photograph? If you clicked on the link to the advert they should all be there. Otherwise I can email them to you but it will take several emails as the photographs are large files. Let me know if you still want me to do that.
I would be very happy to reserve the car for you and accept your offer, however I just wanted to clarify a few things with you first. Bankers draft would be fine with me. You mentioned that you live in Anglesey and cannot travel so I was wondering how you were planning to collect the vehicle? I am not a dealership so cannot easily offer shipping there for you. The only way that that would be possible would be if I was to drive there and somehow get a train back which I am not keen to do. I am in most days so collection of the car shouldn't be a problem. Please let me know what you were planning to do and I am happy to work with you in any way I can to help. I look forward to hearing from you.

Good Morning,
Thanks for your quick response and am also excited to hear from you that the vehicle is still available for sale.
And thanks for the information you just gave about the vehicle and am quite delighted to hear from you that the vehicle is still in great conditions.
The reason why am purchasing this vehicle is because My self and my partner just need one additional vehicle.

Please i want you to email me more pictures aside from the one on web advert page if is still available both the exterior and interior.
Due to my condition i will not be able to view the vehicle at present because i'm heavily pregnant, and the distance as well.
My personal circumstances do not allow me to travel, like wise my partner is away.
According to the Features of the vehicle and the Full Description of the vehicle which i saw on the advert page i'm fully satisfied.

I want you to accept my offer of £7,200 inclusive the advert fees just because I know what the worth of the vehicle ,and also for you to reserve the vehicle for me.
The only way you will release the vehicle to any one is when the cash is in your hand, i.e. payments cleared at bank, and withdrawn.
I am located at Llanfairpwll in Anglesey
I will only required your full name and your postal address, so that the bankers draught could be posted to you via royal mail.
My preffered method of payment is by bankers draft in a (GBP) which may take 4 to 5 working days to Clear.

Please note that you will only release the vehicle until you have received confirmation from your bank that the payment has been given value and cleared.
I hope to hear from you today in order to proceed further with the payment and shipping arrangements as soon as possible.
I look forward to hear back from you today.

Cheers
Sarah

Dear Mrs Gordon,

Thanks for your enquiry. Yes the car is still for sale. I am the second owner and I bought it from a toyota dealership around 18 months ago. I have all the paperwork since I have had it and the manuals and service documentation from the previous owner. It is in good condition with no previous or current mechanical problems. There are some superficial scratches to the front passenger and driver bodywork. I am currently living near Bristol. I am only selling it as I am moving overseas in the near future. I would really like 7000 for it (it was recently valued at 7800 but I took some off for the scratches and as the MOT/TAX are coming up) but maybe able to negotiate slightly if you were interested in taking it off me before the MOT is due. Many thanks for your enquiry and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

I thought the language was weird and assumed that English wasn't their first language. When they said they were deaf that also made it more believable as my family works with deaf people and their written English isn't always grammatically correct. Why would shipping cost over 4000 pounds for goodness sake?! Why did her auto mechanic need to come too? Sounds like they send you the bankers draft which clears but then the bank claim the funds back from you in the end and they have your nice car to sell on...Just wish I hadnt wasted my time replying in the first place! Just hope no-one falls for this scam. I have emailed autotrader to let them know. Fingers crossed I might get an actual buyer soon...

hi there,

Yes the car is still for sale. My husband started a new job on the 12th January and he gets a company car thus the sale. we bought it from Arnold Clark (Glasgow) last February and paid £9,000 for it. we have had no problems with it at all.

It is taxed till end of august and we are in the Bellshill (Lanarkshire) area.

Condition is excellent and therefore as we paid £9,000.00 for it a year ago we would be looking for £8,000.00 ono.

Please advise if you are still interested.

Kind regards

Paula

I received a very similar communication when I was selling my Mk5 R32. You have to give the Nigerians 10/10 for trying though. I reckon we should start scamming them in return...although I bet they aren't as gullible as some in the UK

Just to let you know that this "sarah gordon" is continuing to email sellers via Autotrader, and we received exactly the same string of emails as the others noted above. She offered over the odds for the car, and all the same blarney about a cleared banker's draft, but unless one pregnant, deaf woman needs four new cars in a month, there is something going on! Don't touch this person with a bargepole. I have contacted autotrader to report this, and said I'm happy to forward them or the police her correspondence .... will update if I hear anything.

In the meantime, perhaps they could feature this on "the real hustle", cos I still can't quite figure it out!

Anyone who isn't "sarah gordon" want to buy a nice shiny blue beetle?!

I got one of these too, from the Gordons - she was deaf but had also become heavily pregnant so couldn't view the car, practically broken-english-word for broken-english-word when I was selling my 147. Out of boredom, I coughed up and advertised it through autotrader - something I'll never do again, as every email I received was a scam, I decided to string it out up to a point.

So I'm now in possession of a cheque for £7000, the car was up for £2500, amazingly the Gordons are willing to spend £4000 on transporing the car (£500 was for me to keep because they're nice like that).

Strangely, despite 'living' in Anglesey the RBS cheque was made out in feminine handwriting (Those weird circles over the i's) stamped by a 'finance manager' and sent from Rennes, France.

After ignoring their persistent emails asking if the cheque has arrived I got this today:

Good Evening,

Please i want you to be honest with me,
Did you receive the payment today.

Cheers
Mr Gordon

'Honest with me'? Ha Ha.

Really? That's pretty unfair on him, on what charge? I got the cheque wrong earlier, it was a 'Bank of Scotland' not RBS. I gave them a call a few hours ago to report it. Despite it being an interesting story ,glad they were that I had told them, and it having THIS IS A SCAM written all over it; they said that because no crime had actually been committed I was best reporting it to the police to investigate.

I decided a few years ago that if someone sends me an email wanting to discuss the price, I reply politely, that I will only discuss the price when they view the car. Can even copy and paste as most of the replies I got from Autotrader were the above type...

Bear in mind that a fake bank draft can clear BUT when they run the audit trail it can be identified as a fraud and the money re-taken from your account up to six months later (IIRC).

As noted above, the ONLY true bankers draft is the one you see being drawn from the bank with your own eyes.

Why not ask her to post you cash.. Or better yet, tell her you have a friend in her area who will pop over to see her Tomorrow to collect cash rather than a bankers draft, so just ask her address.....

I guess on 1 charge of fraud and the other charge was for stupidity . lloyds did not see the funny side of story , They also closed his account . Took like 2 weeks for the police to clear him . He offered to trap them but the police was not interested
