I would in a heartbeat. Although, for les money you could have a JPS liveried S2. Allegedly more driveable, and with Andretti sideburns and big shinny aviator sunglasses....

Ah... my most favourite car of all time. I would be that 'special buyer' in an instant.

And the first thing I would do is spray it white.

LOVE it.

In 2011, that's the very deffinition of "effortlessly cool" ;-)

(well, assuming you're rich enough to be able to accumulate £30k without effort.......... )

+ 1, Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Love the car though, just not the interior

Very cool indeed - shame they cant build one like it today but sell it for £30k - would be superb.
Just stick a Honda vtec engine/gearbox in it, small wheels/tyres, no unessential extras, an Elise mk3 but with a roof and retro-wedge looks.

That'll teach her to wear that outfit in an early lotus. It must be a bugger having to push that off the road in heels.
the newer ones are no better hehe

Reminds me of this story, I seem to remember that it was a similar car:

and a PH thread... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=188...

Lotus Esprit
Shaw's wife, Hayley, sold his Lotus Esprit, worth £25,000, for 50p on eBay after he told Jodie Marsh live on air that he would leave his wife and two children for her. Hayley placed the lot on the auction site at the 'buy it now' price of 50p with the description 'I need to get rid of this car in the next two to three hours before my husband gets home to find it gone and all his belongings in the street.' The car sold within five minutes. The scandal made international news and Shaw even made a live apology to his wife on Channel 4's Richard & Judy show. He then bought the car back for £5000.

Love the car. Interior is pretty shocking, but hey that goes with the (original) times.
Occasionally ponder the idea of an Esprit and end up coming to my senses. Nice idea, although if I had £30K to spend on a 'classic' car, not sure it would go to this.

Never ever again. Had an 1980 S2 and it was shocking. Spent a fortune on it getting it right and it would still decide to stop, on occasion, for no reason. Bits would also detach themselves from the car again for no reason and it would run out of electricity. This was after a complete engine rebuild after a snapped timing belt which was after a full service! I loved the way it looked and went when it worked but it killed my love of old Esprit. frown

What do they drive like?
A friend had one when it was about 5 years old, I thought it drove brilliantly with staggeringly good ride quality and flat cornering, very Lotus. And yes, he had the head off doing something most weekends...

The exterior is so right...but the interior....?!

Somebody must have thought it looked good in the 70s...but how?

Having said that there are plenty of fashions and trends now that make me think that in 30-40 years people might judge similarly (take botox for a start: what is it with people that want to look like they have had botched, reconstructive surgery? Or anyone that has appeared on Snog, Marry, Avoid)

There are an awful lot of worthy places to put 30K in, carwise, obviously, but that is certainly up there with the best of them.

Chap I knew years ago had an ex Colin Chapman Esprit, can't recall which model though. Needless to say it was a bit quicker than most others...

Jodie Marsh? Really?
