The hybrid system in one of these is no more than a KERS-lite anyway. Provides a useful little kick to get things going and saves maybe a dozen grams of CO2 per kilometre in the NEDC test compared to cars with a similar bhp/size/weight - no more fuel-efficient in reality though.

Not that it matters - it's cool, aimed at the likes of us, affordable and a bit different. Not a bad little commuter. smile
It also fills in the hole in the torque curve at low revs, which gives it the feeling of a meatier engine than it really is.

WTF.

Resounding hatred for the GT86 despite RWD and LSD, yet a FWD Honda hybrid with chav add-on spoilers pops up and it's a mass freakin' love in.

Hand in your PH cards on the way out boys!

isnt this the crx that appeared on 5th gear and was slated for chronic understeer??
on a cold/greasy/wet track?.....yes, it did yes !

But then you show me a FWD hatch that won't do exactly the same around there in the same conditions.

I'll get slated for it again, but I really like these. We all know you can't stretch the limits of decent cars on the road (most of the time) so there should be more cars designed to be fun.

The iffy rear foglight seems to have fallen off too. wink

I'm keen to see which parts of the Mugen styling stay on the production car.

The CRZ's a nice car to drive, but so far as the GT-86 is concerned we're not comparing like-with-like. The Toyota is RWD, this is FWD. The Toyota has four seats, this has two plus the most useless plus two since the TVR Tasmin. It's also a fair bet it'll be possible to see out of the Toyota.

I like Mugen. I don't like CR-Z. would rather buy a CRX. or a car.

Great news: The CRX can be had for a lot less money, so go fill yer boots.

Great

Can we have a version to replace the Mk1 Insight also a nice ultra light one on skinny tyres that does silly MPG

No. That's a terrible idea. Lupo diesel = silly mpg. Mugen CRZ = hot hatch and tax dodge. Win-win.

Can't help but think that Honda have waited a bit to release the news on this to get one up on Toyota's new baby. I agree, they don't compare in terms of driven wheels and dynamic flair, but by undercutting the price of the GT86, Honda have certainly gained some interest I think.

I test drove the CRZ a few months back and was very impressed - for those people having to conform to strict CO2 levels when taking a company car or car allowance, the CRZ injects a little bit of fun back into the equation. No, it wasn't fast, but, as with most Hondas (or those I have had with a type R badge on) it loved to rev, and didn't sound bad when it did, either.

The handling was pointy and sharp, the driving position good. The interior wasn't the best, but it was ok.

So now, the Mugen, at sub £24k (£23,995 no doubt) adds some sparkle to the chassis, some poke to the engine, and the talk of reducing the CO2 further and boosting economy. OK, so the looks are marmite, but most cars are.

I like it, and I am very interested to hear whether VBH's comments about it's chronic understeer are true. I can't imagine that they are.

the base car is 18k so they have 6k to make it 'fun'. should be enough for a supercharger, bodykit and some new dampers?

Did anyone see the Mugen kitted CRZ at the PH Sunday service at Silverstone? If it looks like that, comes in the same pearl white and goes like a CTR it's an all round win.

I've always liked the look of these. The only thing that put me off was the weedy power output. The Mugen version will be more of spiritual successor the CRX and should be able to go round the twisties pretty well.

yes Maybe I'm alone in thinking this is a fugly beast, but I just can't see the appeal. The Toyota/Subaru effort seems a better bet, though underpowered and over-priced.
I don't think I'll be getting either. smile
