I have been in one, though only for a few minutes. None of the 'Athena poster cars' are that great inside, I've been in an F40, F50, 512TR, Countach etc and none are that great when you play with the switches, buttons etc. I'd still love one, love to drive one, far more desireable than a 130 or a Cayman IMHO.
Not sure why you keep bringing my Garage into this discussion of the XJ220!Especially when you seem to have no vehicles yourself. Or do you chose to not list your vehicles so people don't make tedious observations about subjective aesthetics?
Nah, course not. When do you take your test?

I wish people would stop mentioning about that v12 it didn't get whenever they write about this car. Ultra dull.
Indeed. TWR turned the concept car - that used an engine from the 60s - into a very fast road car, using the latest race engine from the XJR10 WSCC car. The production car was never intended to have a V12.
I remember walking into the Lotus dealer a few years ago, and seeing a silver one like in the pictures for sale.
God, how I wished I could afford it at the time...
Didn't dare to ask if I could take it out for a ride, but got some pictures of my dad (RIP) in it...
BTW, don't know if it was set up but the Top Gear episode where this destroyed the Zonda... Still makes me want one so many years later.
OH... Pic of the week, PLEASE:

I think it looks fantastic, even now. The only thing that dates it (from the outside at least) is that ENORMOUS rear overhang... you just wouldn't do that these days. Still, shot from an angle that hides it's massive arse it's one of the most beautiful machines of all time to my mind

I am 45, I took my test a long, long time ago...I just wondered what beautiful vehicles were owned by someone who was so critical of the looks of an XJ220; Facel Vega, Bugatti, 1930s Talbot Lago maybe, was just suprised you had a 1 Series, which has, lets face it, taken a hell of a beating with the ugly stick.Especially when you seem to have no vehicles yourself. When did they stop beating the 1 Series? It became even uglier IMO...Edited by PascalBuyens on Thursday 8th March 15:14

A good write up except the last sentence. It made perfect sense for the purhcasers to drop the deposit because the car was worth less on completion than the required completion funds. The deposit was from memory 25% of the £405k list price. My father dropped his deposit unfortunately but it was a turbulent time and the right thing to do. He signed up when it was going to be a V12 and got a trip round the TWR factory to spec the car. I still like the XJ220 and really do think that at £100k-ish it is better value than many other modern classics. Rare, beautiful, interesting story, reputable manufacturer etc...
Remember seeing the show car when this was launched at I'd guess Earls Court? I think it was the smaller V12 version but I can't remember too well, I was only 2 years old at the time of course!! But it was quite a space ship to see for the first time.
Seemed to sum up Jaguar of that time - and I think went a long way to convincing Ford all was well with the company and why bother to check the books :-))))

Mmmm....I've been in an F40...can't say I was concentrating too much on the interior Used to live fifty yards from don laws garage , can confirm a very nice man and some of the fantastic cars that used to be parked on the street outside would blow your mind , every thing from d-types to the le mans winning xjr9.
