Amargeddon proof cars!

If going for diesel, something with a mechanical fuel pump is a good idea - if the alternator dies it'll keep running as they don't need a spark. Since you can run them on vegetable oil fuel isn't a problem.
For petrol cars, it's best to find something with a very big engine for the size of the car. It's possible to run a petrol car on wood gas, but it's not very efficient compared to petrol so you would need a pokey engine to get up hills.
The biggest issue in the event of armageddon is going to be tyres - once the rubber starts to decay you'll have real trouble finding new ones. So the actual answer to this question is

When I read your question, I couldn't help think of a zombie apocalypse. So on that note, it would be the solar powered things I seen at a show in the U.S. 90bhp, looks like crap but recharges itself during the day...
I have a zombie MX5. Short of removing it's head or destroying it's brain nothing seems to kill it.davepoth said:

Metal tracks wear out pretty quickly - I wouldn't fancy replacing the bearings and joints on all 4 of those! Tyres can last a long time if they're made the right way. My dad has a 1947 Fordson Major tractor which has tyres from 1949 on it!irocfan said:
amazing to see the estate versions running thru the desert in Egypt with 10 people in and luggage on the roof making the car 2.5 times taller.k-ink said:
I bought a Lexus a couple of years ago. I've not spent 1p on anything going wrong. I aim to keep it running for some time yet.
Or you could buy something simple like a Fiesta. If / when it goes wrong at least it'll be a cheap fix.
