RE: SOTW: MG ZS 180
Discussion
Forget the 'Jaguar pastiche styling'! Get the real thing with 4wd, an extra 60 bhp and RWD feel to the handling- no cam belt either, chain driven! Interior is much nicer then the MG too.
(I know it's a Mondeo)

I've always had a soft spot for these, just because they took something so unlikely and managed to make a genuinely decent driver's car out of it.
Shame about the fuel economy and assembly quality control, though.
This was my brothers one. The clock bulb didn't work and he has a minor alarm issue with it, but nothing else.Shame about the fuel economy and assembly quality control, though.

What sort of MPG are we looking at for one of these?
Depends how you drive it. Drive it sensible and 28-32mpg is pretty easy. My brother used to get around 33mpg out of his. If you use the revs and power a lot though expect lower (I used to get 24-25mpg out of it). It'll do late 30's on a run, and mid-late 20's on shorter journeys.
Sorry. I cant help it. I wouldn't drive that if i was paid £750.
For some strange reason the ZT (75 shape) appeals (maybe the dream of the V8 option) but the 45 shape MG just look old man. Plus having driven a late 45 I have first hand experience of what a lack of real development did for the Rover group.
Dated design and ageing tooling didn't help the cars at all.

Thats good value shedding!
I tried to buy an estate version of this same model (2002 v6 MG 180 tourer) last week which seemed amazing value at £1200 for a one owner with 70k miles and FSH - but someone beat me to it by a few hours.
There wasn't an estate version of the ZS, it would have been a ZT-T you were buying.I tried to buy an estate version of this same model (2002 v6 MG 180 tourer) last week which seemed amazing value at £1200 for a one owner with 70k miles and FSH - but someone beat me to it by a few hours.

Some people wheel out this line again and again. But I'm curious in design terms (in 2002) what exactly is out dated? Or are you simply referring to styling rather than design. Not sure what the tooling has to do with it either if I'm honest.

I always had a soft spot for the facelift saloon with the newer "straights" alloy wheels and the extreme spoiler. Nice cars though despite the slightly dated interior. Then again I am biased as I have owned 4 rovers (3 wedges and one 416 bubble).
How does one go about submitting a car for next weeks SOTW?
