I remember watching these racing back in the time of ETCC. Some of my favourite ever motor racing. Rovers, Jags, 635CSi's, Ovlovs and loads of others, bloody great.

I've wanted one for quite some time now. Kind of cool in the same way that a tank top is cool. Not everyone will get it, but you don't care anyway.

The estate is the one for me. A 240 like the one my dad had years ago, but maybe not beige with the brown vinyl roof rolleyes
I was going to buy one of these a few months back - a lovely big estate and converting it into camper. Bottled it and bought a 30 year old motorhome instead. Goovy

Hey, I'm again!
Or maybe for the first time....
I have a 940 Estate (and another in a shed)
They are beginning to become a little rarer nowerdays
What really amazes me it the 400 Series, they were derided big time when current as old fashioned, staid, pensioner cars. Now they are sought after as drift cars etc as they are RWD!

You have no idea how much i want one of these!
I would love to get hold of the specifications and make a road going replica, just a little more subtle. I think it could be the ultimate sleeper.

My right Ear is lonely frown

I've always thought that all a 240 estate needed was a honking great V8.

Just sold a lovely 740 estate a few months back. It was useless in the corners, terrible in a straight line. Good for hauling all the family around in though.

It went to a very stylish young mum.

The two door version is called a 242. Hens teeth in this country, inevitably much more common in Sweden. Hope the link works. Prices are in Swedish, roughly speaking 10000Swedish is 1000UK£.

I remember working in Denmark in the summer of 1984 and seeing all these 2 door models of the 200 series Volvos and thinking how much cooler they looked than the 4 door versions. The 262C really was an abomination (especially that vinyl roof). But the 242 really looked kind of cool. Likewise a lot of other stuff we never got in 2 door form in the UK.

Just looked online and it seems to be 10.7 SEK to a UKP, so yup, more or less. Of course you've got to go and get it. And the Swedes don't seem too keen to sell their cars for export, I've tried on three occasions now!

Seriously wanted a 242T back in the day when they were new, but Volvo UK weren't interested in doing a RHD version (didn't fit with the then UK imagine of antique dealers in 240 estates)......hence it being one of the great 'forgotton' homologation specials of the day.
They were also very popular in the Group A European Rallycross championship and I well rememeber Bjion Skogstad's monster hp one at Lydden Hill in the mid 80's before he went over to the RS500 (as did most of the Volvo drivers)

There are some BIG hp road versions over in Sweden smile

Having had numerous T5's in every guise... one car that's always eluded me was a 240 GLT! I've never had the space to keep one!

T5 conversion and RWD, half decent combination!

Ahhhh, don't get me started!

Love all things Volvo... when I were a lad the 850 T5 had just been launched and TWR had decided to go racing with the estates. Just awesome. Had a few quick bricks - S70R, 850 T5 and an 850R but love the old RWD stuff too and totally agree, awesomely cool these days. When I bought my current diseasal, the guy had an immaculate old G plate 240 GLT estate in red with black leather. To this day I'm devastated that I played the sensible card and bought the V70 derv when the same cash would have seen me pimping it up Swede style in a big 80's RWD barge.

She's out today, I have roughly 5hrs to find and buy before she comes home.

Back in 1987 dad bought a brand new 740 Turbo Intercooler Estate. From memory it had 180bhp which at the time was a lot, more than a 1987 Porsche 944 2.5 and only 20bhp short of a Cosworth. It did move. Quite tunable apparently!
