Bought my 2.2 vti 5th generation nearly eight years ago off the Bay of Evil, intending to have a play and let it go after a year. I think the semi-auto box is a gem, me. Now I need something practical but can't bear to part with it even though my son is twisting my arm for it anyway.
I had a 2.5gen 16-valve 2 litre years ago - that was an awesome little motor too.
If it was good enough for Setright (he had a 5G last of all - it's in the background of his pic in 'Long Lane With Turnings') it's good enough for me.

I'm currently getting mine ready for an MOT, Jap import, 1994, 2.2 Manual LSD, BB4, No sunroof, No ABS and I can't wait to take it out.

Sadly I'll be letting her go in a month or two frown

I hung on Setright's every word back in the day, and it was his love for the Prelude and my respect for his "teachings" (for that is virtually what they were) that helped convince me to get mine.

But he was seemed so smitten by them ( I seem to recall he had three) that he must have been blind to their failings. Far from the engineering precision that he waxed lyrical about they were a fairly ordinary car with a few clever features,(mostly) great looks, and a lot of unforgivable failings.

Had a Jap 2.2 few years ago. Really wanted Motegi back then but rather happy with the car. It's not sporty but very reliable and comfortable. Came with red leather interior too :P Did some nice ICE install myself which sounded awesome plus the premium feel inside the car (no squeaks or rattles!)

Had a Prelude 2.2VTEC, the swoopy one before they ruined it with the last model.

On the right road, in the right mood, in the right weather, with enough room, it was an awesome drive!

The other 99.99% of the time it was an utterly dreadful, miserable car.

VTEC engine was utterly gutless till 5,000rpm, then it took off with a wonderful howl to 7,000rpm. In second (from memory) that took you from about 45mph to 60mph. Then changing right on the red line would see 5,000rpm in third which would scorch you to 80mph ish. So basically there was this narrow powerband where the car was epic, and the rest (most) of the time it was just flaccid. So all the time you were changing down, changing down, trying to make the fecking thing go. As I say, on the right road in the right conditions with no traffic it was great, but that was one bit of one journey in every 100.
I never found the engine gutless outside of vtec. It seemed very good for a n/a 2.2 petrol engine in fact, and im used to some fairly powerful engines.

As above, the 2.2 was one of Honda's finest ever engines. Granted the B16 and B18 were gutless and the S2000 as well off tap, the Prelude didn't suffer these problems at all. I need to get mine running again. Glorious car!

You'd get seen off at the lights by a Golf GTI.

Once you're "in the VTEC zone" you'd be quicker for sure, it was a properly quick car then, but out of it, pretty flat.

And this is in a car that, in it's day, cost almost double a Golf GTI!

I have driven cars with the b16, b18 and owned h22a and k20a. The H22a was my favourite even though the K20 was technically the best.

My last car was one, its still sitting on my drive, it just wont sell, not even a nibble from the ads.

Was a lovely thing, i got it as a stop gap after i sold my fully restored Integra project (still miss that car...lots).

It was a non runner (cambelt had snapped) but as its a non interference engine as long as not in VTEC it was fine after a new belt.

The only things wrong with it are the 4WS system clicks off once doing about 40mph for more than 5 minutes, swapped the control unit but symptoms continued, but its works on startup and moving about?

Leather interior is slightly cracked at drivers bolster, and the paint on the rear arches is a bit dull from a repair.

Its a great runner, turned heads as you dont see many BB4's.

full MOT on it and ran for a year as a dily driver never had an issue.

£600 was all i am asking, may have to try fleabay, old man wants to use gumtree but i could afford to live without 4 million scam calls a day!

Lovely motors and i do love a good VTEC crossover.

Shame you are so far away, I would have had it off you for £600.

Yep, the F20 in the s2k and k20 are incredible engines, the b18 as well. The H22 just seemed more usable/lazy maybe until you planted it.

I may mean the BB3, its the model with the 2.2 VTEC and the short wide lights as opposed to the high square type headlights of the final model.

Its an N reg anyway.

I have tried the reset procedure to no joy. The thing works as soon as you turn off ignition and turn it on again, it does all the right clicking sounds etc, but once it crosses over from opposite turning (front wheels go right, rears go left if that makes sense) to both wheels turning in parallel it goes into a strop and locks the steering into a 2WS system.

Its maybe as i have only had it in local advert paper, ebay classifieds i have read on here can give better results.

As i say its a great runner, a bit rough at some edges but flew through MOT and would be a good young lads run around.

Always liked Preludes. very cool, especially the old angular one that could be used as a chisel in times of emergency. That was VERY cool.

my first sensible car was a prelude, the styling was a matter of some debate but i really like it - and i managed to find one with previous owners who really looked after the car. wasn't spectacularly quick even with a supposed 220bhp but was a nice place to be - could fit 4 people, sounded nice on v-tec, reliable and i think it looks great! Handling got a bit lairy when pushing on (although that could have been the D2 suspension!!) and parallel parking with the 4ws was an art i never mastered in 6 months, but overall definitely a positive experience overall and good value for money compared to other stuff out there.

gutted that a bus wrote it off a few months ago...

Top pedantry sir smile

I checked and its a H22A 2.2 VTEC 185hp BB1 4WS (a mouthfull)

DC2 was always easier to say of its predecessor smile

My old Teg before and after and the prelude:
before

after full resto (build thread on teg forum was 15 pages!!)

The Lude! as it turned up, ridiculous 18" alloys, red ebay H badges and loudest S\S system known to man.

Fitted a baffle to the exhaust so its more normal as a S\S system is a S\S system lol.

alloys were changed for standard ones i found, standard OEM H badges fitted too.

i likes a standard motor car!

They're nice motors. I'm sure I remember your DC2 from the Honda revs days, but may be wrong smile

Forum i frequented was ITR-DC2.c om and Detailing world.

Both had the build thread.

Was a lot of work, full body repair, huge dent in rear 1/4, engine had thrown a bearing so rebuilt it completely (first time to 8.7k was tense) full recaro rebuild, OEM replacing aftermarket where applicable, all genuine HONDA parts, full respray in Champ white, full brake rebuild, stiffer OEM bushing all round (that was a fun job).

should stop as its a Lude thread, and it makes me miss the Teg so :-(

hmm DC-5 in 2 years........
