I know someone who was selling a car and two lads from the north east and demanded to buy it for half the price. Then got lairey when it was declined and threatend harm and would t go away.

Luckily it was in the valleys and a phone call brought some of the boyos out.

Sold my v8 s-type a few years back, I'd already done loads of bits to it while running it, like dual zone heater control valve, (nasty job) full engine service, updated grill, new trim pieces, new wheel centre caps.
It really was quite straight for an old jag.
Last job I did was rear discs and pads as they were advised on last mot.
The only slight issue was that the handbrake wasn't great, but it was an auto so it never troubled me.
It only had about 1month mot left, so it was reflected in the price.

An old guy came to look at it, took about 45mins including test drive then said he had others to see.
Fair enough.
Same guy came back the next day had another 30mins looking. I'd said about the handbrake.
We finally agreed on £1500

A few days later I had his son on the phone, very aggressive tone saying how I dare sell such a dangerous car to his old dad.
Saying it had failed pre mot on handbrake and it wouldn't hold on his dads sloped drive.
He even threatened to bring the car back.

Where do you begin???

When i sold my first ford cougar last year, two lads from Bristol turned up to view it, asked me to start it, asked if it had a cd player, then said "£800 wasnt it?" Got the money out, paid me, signed documents and left, was barely there 10 minutes.

Advertise car at a full but sensible price.

Refuse to negotiate on phone.

Serious buyers turn up to inspect a well-presented car.

Haggle a bit.

Car sold. [Doesn't take much time. I get to pocket >50% of a trader's margin. Buyer goes away happy.]

i once got suckered into buying the rustest series 1 Escort RS Turbo and only on getting home did I realise it was actually a Turbo Technics XR3i with a full RS bodykit interior and respray. Still it was only £700 so a month later I put it up for sale at a grand and managed to swap it for a mint early 4 speed 2.8i Capri with genuine RS alloys and a unique number plate.

Had my focus RS for sale on here for 20k just over a year ago.

Guy that bought it for his young son deposited £19,000 by bank transfer into my bank account without even seeing the car, and only having sent a couple of low key emails of enquiry.

He drove the 150 miles to my home the following week bringing the further grand cash with him on the day he picked it up.

Cracking bloke but I had to have words with him to the extent of internet scammers & being over trusting etc.....in the most light hearted way possible smile

Is that not a very odd way of doing it? Haha, normally the lower amount is a deposit or have I been buying cars wrong :/

Sold my first Chimaera to a chap from Holland. He was en route to pick it up, and already in the UK, when I put my hand through the rear screen whilst cleaning it banghead

Only chipped me £200 for it though.

Was selling a Punto that had snapped a timing belt, needed a fair bit of work done to put it right. Was up for £350 IIRC!

Had a guy email me asking if I would accept £200 cash, a stereo (Which I was informed retailed 6 months ago for £500), and a box of beer.

I was almost tempted laugh

I live in South East and a chap from Scotland bought my spec c impreza by email for the asking price. Never saw the car or had it inspected, was collected from my house by a third party and driven up to his house. When it arrived it was the first time he'd seen it or indeed heard it running!

I had my old Mondeo on eBay with a start of £1200 and some guy contacts me and ask what I'd take for it. I said I was after no less than £1500 and if he produced that then he could have it and I'd throw in a set of winter tyres. He drove up the same day from around 100 miles away and we went for a test drive, he gave it a good once over and then offered me £1000! I said no bones, £1500 or you've wasted your time shook his hand and left him sitting outside in his car with his mates.

He left and came back 30 minutes later with another £500 and we did the deal. No hard feelings, no grief or aggro. If you don't ask, you don't get. In this case it didn't work but who knows, as long as you're not aggressive about it, give it a go.

My easiest sale was a Vectra GSI estate.
Posted it on Autotrader and got a call from someone on the coast.
He didnt have time to come all the way to Kettering so asked if we could meet in Peterborough.
Met at a petrol station, he looked at the car (didnt drive it) gave me full asking price and off I went back home!
He said he was buying it for his wife to run about in.

A year or so later a mate spotted it on Autotrader again looking a right mess. (was near mint when I sold it)
Apparently he had got home, she hated it and refused to drive it, so it sat on their drive for a year

Selling my Lotus Elise. Other mates in the club had no interest in there's. So thought, what the hell, will advertise it now (late November) For sale for 2 hrs. Got an email from a guy in France. Wants the car, will pay the price , give me your bank details. Now with all the scamming, I ignored it for a day. He sent another email, asking for my phone number. So I gave him my work number. He called later that day. Asked on the Lotus forum about this guy and was told he was genuine and a Lotus dealer in South of France. Money deposited 2 days later, he turns up after flying over from France 2 days after , car driven back to the sunnier climate the same day. All a bit weird.
Put my Westfield up for sale a week before Christmas. Was in no rush to sell it to be honest. Call same day, bloke from 150 miles away wants it. Drives down next evening, freezing cold, took him for a blast, paid me a deposit and picked it up at the following weekend. No grief on either sales and a bit too easy.
