I should clarify - I don't have any problem with Fiat, or most of the way they are presently running Alfa.
I just think they should shut up about their racing legacy if they're not going to do anything contemporary about it. Celebrating 50 years of Autodelta is like BMW celebrating 108 years of Rover.
Why doesn't Fiat just call their hotted up models Abarth and leave Alfa to a company that actually cares?I just think they should shut up about their racing legacy if they're not going to do anything contemporary about it. Agreed, I really don't know why Fiat took over Alfa.
Now, after years of neglect mr Marchionne is now actively kill off and burn to the ground all that is Alfa (and Lancia, and Maserati).
Hopefully it will get a mercy killing soon, so that someone like Tata can buy it and give it back its dignity.
I own a Giulietta by the way. Nice car, but has nothing to do with Alfa.

To prevent Ford from getting their hands on it and having direct access to the -at that time protected- Italian market, as well as a name that with the right investments could take a bite out of Ferrari. They had a bit of a feud some years before because of Enzo. Apparently at the time Agnellis stated to have "added a retarded province to his empire", and the guy that messed up Italy so hard people actually voted for Berlusconi, our leftist friend Prodi, apparently saw to it that Fiat got Alfa under price.

This all been covered before and shouldn't be in this thread really, but I'd say the Marchionne isn't trying to kill Alfa off at all, he's just trying to turn the Fiat group around. In that task he seems to be succeeding, but Alfa will have to hang on in there for a little longer while they sort out Chrysler and pave the way for a return to the US. As for the Giulietta not being an Alfa, well nothing has since the 75 if you are going to be that picky about life.
Love the Autodelta feature though, and contrary to some opinions Alfa need to make more of the heritage not less.

Exactly, so why keep calling them Alfas?Love the Autodelta feature though, and contrary to some opinions Alfa need to make more of the heritage not less.
You do know that mr turnaround closed the Alfa site, fired all personnel that could be traced back to Jano and is now planning to close the museum and sell of the old cars, right?

What he ^ said - I've been over this at length, an example of which is here, and that's why I have confidence in their future under Fiat & SM.
Until we get there though, I find this Autodelta business, and a few other similar examples, grating.
I admire your optimism. The guy has been turning Fiat around since 2004 and is still circling. Until we get there though, I find this Autodelta business, and a few other similar examples, grating.

Can't be *rsed with this, like I said wrong thread......

So you think he's got a personal vendetta against Alfa then?. He's just a businessman and a pretty good one too.

Listen, it's not like I want to drag you in a conversation here, but that is my point. He is a businessman and a bookkeeper. Not a car enthusiast that is successfully running a car company like Lutz, Iaccocca, Piech or any of the other serious names. He does not see the potential of Alfa or its heritage. While BMW and Mercedes are shoving out money to try be associated with Mille Miglia and Villa d'Este the maverick leader is shutting down the museo storico. Which is full with the Autodelta cars this thread is about. To a beancounter like him Autodelta will never be more than a sticker, not an oppertunity. Can't be *rsed with this, like I said wrong thread......

Ignoring Alfa, in what ways do you consider Fiat to be unsuccessful? I think you could call some of the last few years' developments close to ingenious.
Really. Turning more volume than the competition? Making more profit? Winning more races? Brand values still intact? Punters happy? Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
