Love these, but struggling to understnad the aversion, some folk have, to mild bolt on mods . I'm not a massive fan of big bodykits and garish paintwork myself, but aftermarket exhaust and filter, with tasteful wheels such as BBS LM's or Volks improve these types of cars IMO.

I've had a couple of FCs, but an FD is definitely on the list. I saw a standard looking black one (import) in traffic last week and it looked amazing. It made all the cars around it look tall and stubby and ugly.

I hate the body kits, chav interiors and stupid wheels so many of them have now. If you want to make a car look better pick on something that wasn't already pretty, like a 200SX.

Indeed. Do I need to see out some early 90s tyres to keep it original. If I had one of these I'd be tempted to ditch the sequential turbos too.

Not sure why a non-UK car would be a problem either. Might cost a little more to insure but otherwise? They were all built in the same factory anyway.

This car is local to me, I've seen it quite a few times and it always turns my head, it'll be a shame if it leaves the area. It does look to be in very good condition.

Get the technical discrepancy out the way first, both turbos are the same size, the 2nd one is not larger as per article.

3 months ago i finished my love affair with the Rx7, 4 cars worth to be precise. Perhaps its fitting the write up mentions body kits and tuning, although its very rare you see a Veilside one, they are pretty much universally hated in the "community", although there are some rather nice additions from the reputable Japanese tuning saloons that dont stray to far from the overall shape.

This is the very reason my love affair ended (and friends too) however, they have hit that price bracket that puts them into, shall we say, the McDonalds hang out crowd wink

I truly hope one day they will be forgotten (as such) or at least unrecognised and i will without doubt have another, but i have learned my lesson, oem standard with maybe some breathing upgrades will be all that is required, rather than the single turbo monster that was my last.

I thoroughly recommend ownership at some point to all those that have an itch to scratch smile

Want! I'd class myself as the original Gran Turismo generation and at 32 now and two young kids I can safely say I have no disposable income. The closest I can get is GT5 (yes, still playing)

Utterly wonderful cars - they feel like a larger MX5, but the powerplant really is something to behold - so smooth, and the stock twin turbo setup is beautifully smooth. With a few breathing mods low to mid 300's are easily accessible, with the same smoothness and power delivery. Yes, they have their foibles, chiefly around engine fragility, but it's a sacrifice well with making IMHO. The chassis is utterly lovely, so sharp, and so much feeling - it only improves with a few choice mods such as polybushes.

I sometimes with I'd kept mine more stock, as they drive so well, but the joy of them, like many turbo jap 90's coupes, is in the relative ease with which you can extract more power, and the 13b responds so well, with relatively low cost compared to some other options.

In my opinion, one of the most beautiful cars to ever come out of japan. So elegant, and still look fresh today.

Beautiful cars guys - thanks for sharing.

Any more owners want to show and tell?
Well, as you asked, I think I should probably photo we.

As I got it

Following what I consider to be a bit of tasteful-ising, with a friend's old car. Still not to everyone's taste, but hey.

Currently languishing in the garage as life is more important, but the urge to get her back on the road is becoming increasingly compulsive.

FWIW, I'm 32, so I guess original GT generation smile

I love these cars, But i fail to see the advantage of the good old wankel rotary? yes its small and light but would a more robust 2 litre 4 pot turbo been a better bet?? Sorry I know the rotary fans will get upset with that comment but I know some RX7's have had engine swops so I cant be totally mad!

I have driven a tuned one with about 300 bhp and it was fast but I didnt see the fuss at all about the rotary engine. To be frank for me that was the least appealing part of the car.

I had one about 7 years ago. Lovely looking car wasn't completely sold on the engine. I also managed to crash it. Due to lack of talent and also the turbo switch over is less than smooth. Add in greasy german roads and a roundabout... oh dear. Luckily wasn't a bad crash as the car was going around the ring the next day.

A few choice mods as I did feel the wheels looked a little lacking in offset.

I'm now back with an older rotary as a cheap track car. Not as pretty as the FD handling isn't half bad.

I like the rotary engine, its different. It sounds unique and it does feel unique in its power delivery. Paired with Twin Turbos is the ultimate combination in my RX7 and the 9.5k redline is addictive in my RX8 R3.

I wish more cars had this powerplant!

They're not actually as light as people seem to think - can't remember the exact weights though. They are probably 'lighter than most' though. The size is a huge advantage - it allows them to be mounted low down and far back - in an FD they sit way back in the bay - you can kind of see here:

meaning the weight distribution can be set really far back. They don't feel like a lot of F/R cars somehow - it's hard to explain.

I'm no purist, but I do love the rotary - mine clips the limiter at 8250, and makes a good wadge of power and reasonable torque from just over 4k upwards - they also spool big turbos pretty well due to the sheer amount of hugely wasteful super hot gas they fire out the back!
And the noise, oh the noise... Best done through a more restrained exhaust, I'm not always a big fan of an unsilenced rotary tbh, it has a really 'harsh' edge, and can sound a bit 2 stroke-y - some straight through silencers really mellow it out, and it takes on a lovely tone, almost motorbike-esque.

PH you utter bds.

The two cars i am looking at for my next toy are S2000s and RX-7s at about the £7-9k mark rage

Can you stop doing features on cars i want!

This red one is beautiful but i really want one that has been de-spoilered like the white one above, such a superbly shaped car. cloud9

You will get an absolute gem for that budget buddy, prices are at an all time low and unlikely to rise sadly to say. Mine was worth more as spares than a whole.

I think you're trying to say that the RX-7 is Mazda's best drivers' car, but you've rather confusingly told us that it's the worst!
Just testing... Sorry, of course I did! Had summit and nadir in my head, inexplicably chose the latter. It's 'peak' now

Really?

They are definently going for more than when I last looked, a quick search across PH, AT and eBay brings up the cheapest one at £4300, with most at around the £8k mark, when I was last looking, they could easily be picked up for £3k-£4k.
