What about a turbo barge + Caterham? Thrills + boost in separate packages.

i.e. Bananas Caterham + Boosted Audi wafter.

CLK63 AMG

Failing that, spend half of your budget on a Caterham and the rest on racing it wink

So... this may be a little long, sorry!

I was/am a motorbiker, I absolutely love the torque and instant acceleration available on motorbikes. However having recently been driven into by a geriatric who didn't see me and forced me onto the opposite side of the road where I took a trip up a Vectra's bonnet (broken femur, wrists etc) it looks like I'm going to need to knock it on the head for quite a while...

So, here's the car question: what second hand car is going to give me that same smile that the the instantly available torque on motorbikes used to give me? Here are some rather generic requirements:

1) Torque, oh man I love the torque. Have I mentioned torque? I want it to pull from low down, high up etc
2) Not fussed about two seat/cabriolet/etc
3) Petrol is fairly essential as an my pattern of driving is 90% < 10 miles per journey
4) Reliability would be nice
5) Couldn't give a monkeys about top speed
6) I do enjoy gadgets: satnav, bluetooth etc
7) DON'T MOCK ME but if it comes in a decent automatic option (STOP LAUGHING) then I'd be up for that

So, what car do I want? I have £20k to spend.

Thanks.
Not sure they would really compare to a bike, but I'm pretty sure they'd be quite interesting hehe

I would go something like this. Cant say I know the thrill of a bike and I'm sure it cant be matched by a car but this has to be close.

Best Ferrari made in last 30 years. Well documented fact.

Lots of cars suggested known for not being torquey! He needs a VXR8. Trying to replicate a motorbike with a Caterfield will result in disappointment, he should go for something that is unashamedly a car with a big character replete with huge gobs of torque that he can easily do a few driving adventures in. They sound the bks too, so great at low speed.

Jax XJR's are probably too smooth but very fast and cheap. I have an x350 xjr and its lovely.

Pretty much anything with an AMG badge will be awesome. Perhaps consider an M5. Audis of this type tend to be a little numb though except perhaps the latest RS4?

Caterhams are a good shout but about as pratcical or less than the bike.

Best of both worlds is probably a supercharged exige S2 or an elise/exige S1 with a honda engine.

£20k will bag a very nice example with excellent history. There isn't much faster. They're extremely involving to drive. They're petrol engined. They're much more reliable then non-owners will warn you.

Made me chuckle. Some would say they make a great alternative to a slightly used GT86 wink

Most of the responses seem to be answering "Which torquey car for £20k?"

As the thread title is "Which car to replace the thrill of a motorbike?" I didn't interpret the answer to be a highly refined mainstream manufacturer performance saloon or roadster. It's probably just me taking the thread title too literally though.

The Caterham suggestions above are more what I was thinking when I saw the thread title - something raw and involving, but could be driven to work and back.

Which they are if you want a 2+2 coupe for driving fun. Shame there seem to be so many wkers taking things out of context and making up stuff that was never said or even hinted at.

Never thought I'd say it.......
My Stage 2+ B5 S4 (V6 bi-turbo) has taken the place in my heart once occupied by my Fireblade.

I don't miss riding the bike at all.

Absolutely.

Especially if you service it yourself, and disregard the depreciation having used it to commute daily.

They are reliable though, old electronics see to that.
