To VAG or not to VAG...

what makes it better? forgive my lack of knowledge
Edition 30 has 30more BHP (230) and is more tuneable. Different alloys and colour coded bumpers. It is popular though, so prices can be a bit steep.Nothing wrong with the standard GTI, and loads to choose from. A nicer car than the Leon FR certainly (and I did look at them before getting my Golf). Only reason to buy a Leon is if you really want the extra power of the Cupra.

sorry is there a link? if it can be had for 7500 that's a contender. Mpg and tax not an issue as it will be a year of expense at most.

I had one similar although it was a manual gearbox. I found it nice to drive and the engine was smooth with that nice note when revved. I'd recommend one as something a bit different to the usual 4 cylinder offerings.
ED30 sounds decent, I think I am going to do this on a "right car right time" basis" and keep an open mind but the 30 does look the part and the extra grunt would be enjoyable.
I did see there were 1 or 2 mk5s in the VW used car network but they looked to be at the thick end of 10/11k - suppose on the plus side I could trade my car in but the value would probably be laughable.

If you're comparing the Golf GTI and Leon Cupra then it may also be worth taking a look at the Octavia vRS, same car underneath but bigger body and huge boot means you won't be thinking about changing it when impending baby plans come to fruition.
Indeed, but it sounds like he wants the excuse to change again!RizzoTheRat said:

VRS is on the list for sure - just not so keen on the looks but I won't discount the petrol version. I drove the diesel and it just felt like a Touran TDI in truth.RizzoTheRat said:
Nothing wrong with that
Yup every 9-12 months I change cars, get the itchy feet and all that. Guilty as charged lol.A hot hatch may well be the right car for a couple of years but I just know closer to us having another child I will start looking at fast estates, can't resist doing the homework.

Bear in mind that a Golf GTi suits us fine as a family car, just because you have an addition to the family don't neccessarily assume that you need to buy a massive car.A hot hatch may well be the right car for a couple of years but I just know closer to us having another child I will start looking at fast estates, can't resist doing the homework.

I had an edition 30. Sold it after a year for the same money as I bought it for. Had a remap already fitted which gave it 300bhp. A proper Q car and lots of fun.Nothing wrong with the standard GTI, and loads to choose from. A nicer car than the Leon FR certainly (and I did look at them before getting my Golf). why a hot hatch?
Why not something rwd and coupe'ish?
it could be a 6 series for the giggle of a 4.4 engine - I am only asking for the VAG comparison as the two models are fairly abundant on the used market. Why not something rwd and coupe'ish?
I'm pretty tall and tend to eliminate anyone/thing sitting behind me - so the plan is hot hatch for now, big car down the line so a baby seat or the teen can get behind me. Again, open to all suggestions, but on the VAG side just wondered about gti vs leon etc.
Lots of good advice so far thank you. I can see my budget creeping a tiny bit for the right ED30 possibly.
