So, I find my self looking for a new car to run about in. I have had a couple of different things lined up which fell through for one reason or another.

My real problem is that I don't have many criteria by which to pick a car - with that in mind, it makes almost anything possible!

So, budget £25k (although have been looking up to £40k+ and also much lower). Don't need more than 1 seat in reality but can have more. Shortish daily commute (25 miles per day) plus fun at the weekend and am not too concerned about the mpg.

Cars - I like all sorts. Sports cars. GT cars. Convertibles. SUVs. 4x4s. All of them I like and wouldn't object in owning.

I guess my only real criterion comes with regards to running costs - I'd like to have an idea as to what my annual costs are going to be - so either a car that isn't going to unexpectedly lunch it's engine...but if it is going to do so, then a good (manufacturer's) warranty in place annually to cover this (Porsche/BMW etc).

I also want to feel that I'm getting value out of the whole package - I recently looked at a M3 CSL (fantastic car) but once the mileage goes over 60k, the warranty doubles in cost and that doesn't appear like value to me (I am aware as to why though!).

So - suggestions/ideas?
With that kind of budget easy.

1. For ultimate driving thrills and fun with supercar looks and what should be ok running costs and residuals. - Lotus Evora.

2. Chevy Corvette of some kind, be it a late C5/C5 Z06 with some mods or a C6. Very low running costs and a genuinely good place to be with some serious grunt.

3. A new'ish Mustang. Arguably less capable than a proper sports car, but there is just something very fun about hussling Pony cars about.

With the BMW warranties isn't there something where you switch to monthly payment just before 60k and the price stays the same forever each month even when you hit over 60k? Not sure if that's BMW warranty or the other well regarded None BMW one (Mondial?!?)

£25k get's you a LOT of interesting metal, ISF is a good shout. For me it'd be a 997, or stretch to an Aston Martin.

Thanks for those.

1. I had a nosey at an Evora a little while back. Was unimpressed by the apparent build quality of the thing.

2 & 3. Have considered a 'stang of some description, however am concerned about the availability of parts etc. Corvette. Hmm. Interesting!

You said it yourself

Cayman R

£1600 for a two year warranty, two year service interval, should hold their value reasonably well, fantastic to drive and in your budget.

What more do you need? smile
