Not sure you can clone Mercedes keys anyway.

New ones aren't ordered blank and then programmed. They're ordered pre programmed and work straight away.

So if they wanted a key for your car they would just use the reg to look up the chassis number and order it through a dodgy dealer parts department or with some fake documents.

(yes, this sounds like Gone in 60 Seconds, but this is actually the process for Mercedes keys!)

They have a cheek. Your car should have been immaculate when you came to collect it, the clean should have been for free and they should have made some effort to safe guard it.

Very bad service.

I wouldn't think they had any intentions to aid the assistance of the illegal removal of your vehicle.
Like was said though, maybe not the best place to have your car valeted.

Come back in the morning? You're bit of a pushover, why would you let someone treat you like that confused

That said I would never leave my car with a hand car wash place, even an old banger!
+1 madness. And a 13 plate E Class Merc as well!
I get my co car valeted once a week at various places in Romania. They always do a great job and the car is always there when I come to collect it.

As long as you check the mileage before you put it in I don't see an issue.

Your car was borrowed for the evening. They have spent the night cruising around in it and as you won't have a clue what the mileage was when you dropped it off so the extra 100 or so miles it has on it is unnoticeable. I'd check the back seats and the rear tyres....

I'm afraid I never leave my keys with anyone, let alone a car wash.

They should be thankful you are so mild mannered. I would have waited with the car while someone brought the spare key down then trashed the fking place.

That must make it hard work for your garage.

You'd have trashed the place?! Are you Jason Statham?

Just sit back and wait for all the speeding/parking tickets to plop through your letter box.

I've always thought these hand wash places are a bit fly by night, however, given the amount of vehicles they do in the average working day, if cloning keys & nicking prestige motors was their game , they'd have been rumbled before now.

Just an honest mistake, you're more understanding than many here, but it's the bosses fault, not the guy doing the valeting, (who probably hands the keys to the guvnor at the end of the job). Stick a few fks into the boss, get a couple of free valets by way of apology and don't worry.

You have a much longer fuse than I do.

I would have demanded the keys to be returned right away and if they refused I'd have called the police.

Certainly get the keys recoded.

He says he got his spare key and took the car home, ready to go and collect the key in the morning?

If you find you never get your key back, take your car to the Mercedes dealer and ask them to plug it into STAR and remove / block / deauthorise the key. If the perp did try to use the key on your car, it would be useless.
Does the key not operate a physical door / boot lock? i.e. giving free access to the interior.
