I'd never even thought of doing this, I have only been driving for a couple of years but I'd always assumed if somebody came up to me offering me a parking ticket I would automatically start getting a bit wary of it and would assume something was wrong with it.

I may have to try this in future though, I'm always overpaying for park expecting to be somewhere for 4 hours when I'm only there for 2!

Do you think wardens really check every reg with every ticket? I assume most would just be set in their ways of checking the expiry time and moving along?

You would be "done" for not having a valid ticket. Shirley?
I have paid for a ticket and put a reg number in as instructed by the sign smile

Always if possible. Travelcard in London too.

In fact, even the French do this - In the Alps a random couple approached us couple gave us their ski passes as they were leaving early.

I dont park anywhere that needs my reg, always run by grasping third parties that are basically crooks, they are basically causing people to shop online and further kill the retail sector, I think if retailers want me to go to there store I should be able to park my car for free, without providing reference and not be at risk of being pursued by these robbing bds.

I will always hand my ticket on, that space has been paid for, for the duration of the ticket and it is up to me who I let use it, they can display their terms, I have mine.

I do it when I am parking locally and there are 30 mins or more on the ticket. When I am parking out of town I usually end up in places where you pay upon exit.

I don't, for the simple reason that the only pay-for parking car park I ever use is so utterly empty I very rarely ever see another car there!

Or I could park in a local authority car park for space that is half the size and three times the price for the sake of saving a three minute walk.

If I have a substantial amount of time left of my ticket I will offer it to someone else, and I have had people give me theirs as well. As far as I am concerned I have paid for parking time and I will use it in any way I want. If I want to give it to someone else then I will.

Perhaps that there is some rule that the tickets are not transferable but I have never been challenged over it, nor have I ever been challenged over the registration number on the ticket.

I did once and the bloke had a right go at me for passing on the remaining 1 &3/4 hours to him, I had only been there 15 mins but had to buy 2 hours minimum.

I was commiting fraud and cheating the council according to him!

I see it the other way in fact as I had paid for the space already and they would then charge someone else again for the use of the same period of time.

Not had the opportunity to but I will do.
A middle age couple gave me their ticket that was still valid for a full 24 hours for the car park underneath the travel lodge I was staying in. Saved me 15 quid and cheered me right up.

Yep, done it before and would do it again. Most machines round here are just of the pay-and-display type so it's easy enough to pass on - and people are always very happy to get free parking. If I can't find anybody I just stick the ticket onto the machine.

Did give a travelcard away once after I'd got off the tube on a lovely summer's day and decided to walk home - gave it to a very attractive girl who gave me a peck on the cheek as thanks.
(cue a sudden increase of PHers giving travelcards away to fit women in an attempt to get a kiss hehe)

I do if there's much left on it and there's a convenient opportunity. I don't tend to go out of my way to do so, though.

Yeah - always do it, its a simple task but 99.999% of folk are genuinely warmed and grateful eventhough its only a quid or so. Its the little things that just help the world go round and restore faith in normal human folk again smile

Yep, always do it when I can. If I can't see anyone to give it to then I stick it to the machine. Good karma as far as I'm concerned.

I do if there's >30mins left on the ticket. Although I am selective in who gets the tickets. Usually give it to a flustered mum type. Never to someone with a newish BMW or Range Rover etc. They can probably afford the 90p for a ticket.

An old guy in an old E30 BMW did refuse to take the ticket recently though when I offered it to him which I didn't get.

Of course! If there's time left on the ticket why not let someone else benefit from it? I'm done, it's no skin off my nose...

When I was younger it was fairly common to see tickets with time left on them "stuck" to the pay and display machine for re use by the next motorist......ahhhhhh innocent days!

But it states they are non-transferable.
