Agree too and also don't like the stereo which looks like a clip on from halfords.

isn't the reason the 6GC is doing so well that BMW have way more production than they need & are chopping 20k off the price of a new one & offering 0% finance as a sweetener?
They were giving a chunk away in March this year - not 0% though.

Wasn't the point of making the 4 series to differentiate it from the 3? Niche marketing gone crazy!
Same as 6 to 5
Merc CLS to E
Audi A5 to A4

etc etc

More stylised version of a std saloon

Is it just me or does that iDrive screen look like an afterthought?
They've all gone that way now. Merc then Audi.

Keeps the interior looking cleaner.

I looked at the 435d GC as an alternative to the 640d GC.

Aside from the fact that the model hadn't been confirmed two months ago, it was tempting, but whilst a tonne better than the 3-series all round, it was still a lower-rent alternative, and with the deals available on the 6, not a massive amount cheaper.

First picture kinda just looks like a 5 series...
How dare BMW make 1 smaller model look similar to a bigger model. That's never happened before, EVER rolleyes

Like most of their models, especially in the "good ol' days"

That screen location is an EU thing apparently, it needs to be in direct eyeline for the driver for safety reasons or whatever. First thing I did when I sat in a new 3 Series was point at the screen and ask if it went down, it does look odd.

Yup. I can't see what the problem is. Even if they are identical inside, to drive etc but you have 1 looking slightly different than another....what's wrong with having to choose between 2?

Not sure why so many people on PH have a gripe about having "too much" choice?

It's not a car for me, but it makes sense. Want a car with a hatch back (more practical than a traditional boot) that isn't the size of a traditional hatch back or isn't an estate car? Great, get a gran coupe. If you prefer the 4s styling over the 3, choose the 4.

The 6 vs 5 series debate is different because there are larger differences to the interior and certainly exterior as well.

No 435i Gran Coupe for the UK? It's listed on BMW's website and configurator

... and a 435i xdrive from July onwards.... Now that could be a very capable car.

and there's me thinking the naming convention had something to do with the amount of doors....
I thought the 4 series was basically the 3 but with less doors and the 3 series now only applying to the 5 door variants?

Did anyone else notice that it took until paragraph five of a six paragraph "review" to actually talk about what the car was like to drive.

I don't usually complain about articles but this one was horribly lacking in content. I know PH isn't Evo or Car but that was a particularly poor effort. I could have just read the spec sheet.

4+1. There are 3 x 3-point harnesses in the back, but you wouldn't want to sit in the middle one.

This.

Not sure why a manufacturer would get criticised for offering more choice laugh

I tell you, certain car companies will regret these shifts to so many models one day...
What the heck...3 is no longer 3...Which is disgraceful in my view...You lose the heritage of a model..
4 is a 3...4Series Gran Coupe...What's "Gran" about it ? That it's more expensive than a "3" ? Sorry "4" standard !!!

Make a few models of each...People will then appreciate what they drive...Make a zillion models of each & then I might as well go by taxi...Oops...Depends on where you live...Certain "Luxury" brands are taxis...

Oh well..the worlds gone bananas..

Really?

Even when it was 3, 5, 7 series only?

7-door lux saloon...?

He means odd numbers were 4 doors and even numbers 2 doors.

Doesn't help that the 1st ever 3 series was only available as a 2 door though.

Maybe PH would like it if BMW only ever made a 3 series....that would make their life easier. Why make more models which look similar?
