RE: Carice Mk1: back to basics retro speedster a twist
Discussion
Around 350 kg is about half the weight of the mk1 Elise ....54 hp is about half the hp of the Elise as well ...
From what I understand about electric motors ...none of this gets lost on the way to the wheels ...and it's all available from the start of pushing the go peddle .
Unlike a combustion engine that loses a huge amount of power just cooling itself and moving its own parts before getting to the wheels and the power is available is torque bands ..
Anyway . Would love to try a car like this .......bet it feels zippy ....like sports cars of old ...mayby not high top speeds ( but who honestly uses top speeds on the road ) instant torque , ligtweight , = fun
Oh and only one moving part in engine ....no computer management , cambelts , water pumps , fan modules and other bks that makes all new cars so expensive to fix.

The power rating of an internal combustion engine is that available after all these inefficiencies have been removed. i.e. a 100bhp engine develops 100bhp at the flywheel, even though it's consuming 300+bhp worth of fuel and converting most of it into heat. From what I understand about electric motors ...none of this gets lost on the way to the wheels ...and it's all available from the start of pushing the go peddle .

As long as the motor(s) is/are directly connected to the wheels or axle, and no differential or gearbox.scubadude said:
Yes, to echo the poster above, the "don't crash it" advice and generally negative tone of this article is not up the usual standards on PH- why all the hate?
The little Carice looks very interesting and the interior shown here is beautiful, plenty of mainstream manufacturers (and definitely all the kit car makers) should take a look IMO.
I agree. Crappy article. Looks fantastic and at that weight it should go round corners better than most of the dross for sale. Try pricing up the motor and Li batteries, if it can be sold for that little it's a bargain! I just hate 'cute' on cars.
Fairly likely you will never see one in the plastic, so no worries . I hope the company is a success. But these small outfits with big ideas rarely, if ever, seem to make it. Which would be a pity in this case, I quite like that take on a 356.
