This is getting repetitive, but the answer is always NO.

You can NOT drive it in the UK.

See "Bringing your vehicle back untaxed" and if that is not definitive then I don't know what is.

No MOT is not the same as no road tax.

Quite frankly considering that there may be quite rich pickings in the vicinity of Dover, I certainly would not want to chance that.
OP, despite what's being said here, if you book your car in to an MOT station at or near Dover you are allowed to drive without tax. But you must have an MOT booked with an official reference number so that it is in the MOT database when/if the Police look it up.

I'm not sure how 996TT02 think's anyone gets a car from SORN to an MOT station - but it's common practice.

Plus various other VOSA sources online.

If in doubt, call Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (VOSA replacement) and get confirmation, they will tell you the same thing.

I'd love to see one of these official reference numbers!
Just book it in for an mot at your destination and you are legally allowed to drive it there for an Mot.
They won't confiscate your car at customs just cause the tax disk ran out!

If he books online with a Dover MOT station then he can see a reference number, a confirmation email, plus a discount (currently: £38)

If the Police stop him he has some evidence of a booking - if an ANPR picks him up he will have passed (or failed) that day, with a record as such.

I've done it twice with two different vehicles. As long as it's logged at the MOT station so cops can ring them and confirm - no problem.

No probs - good luck and enjoy the trip if you do decide to drive.
