RE: New Civic Type R for Paris
Discussion
I think it looks great - I've always been a fan of fast Hondas, I owned an S2000 and love the FN2 which a friend of mine owns, I know this is a step in a more modern, less revvy and eco friendly direction, but if they can pull it off well I'll be at the Honda garage for a good long think.
Just release it already.

I think it looks good, but agree that the rear wing could be a bit smaller and it would benefit from 50% less exhausts!
I reckon that 285bhp ish with a kerb weight of just over 1300kg should make things interesting. I know that the VXR and Golf R both carry a fair bit of timber and are over 1400kg.
I wonder if this model and maybe a bit more emphasis on sportier models in general from Honda is being planned to coincide with their return to Formula one engine supply with McLaren in 2015.

That looks absolutely absurd. Laughably bad design imo.
Not that I am going to read your response but can you not explain why? What is it with PH culture these days to post up moronic statements without explanation? Add some value!Me 1:0 You

280 from a 2 litre VTEC unit?
the VTEC system on it's own can get 200 (maybe more) Surely a blower would add more than 80hp?
I bet it'll be very near 300, if not a little more. I think it'll be around 320.
Agree - given that the NA K20A engine can be taken to around 270bhp with some simple bolt-ons, I'd be hoping for well in excess of 300bhp.the VTEC system on it's own can get 200 (maybe more) Surely a blower would add more than 80hp?

Also, I think Honda are making too big a deal about VTEC on this new model; yes, the engine revs to 7000rpm but this isn't revvy - consider Subaru's JDM 2L turbo engines in the Impreza STI, which rev happily to 8K

Given that the vast majority of it's competitors in the segment are producing peak power at 5000-6000 rpm, 7000 rpm is a jump over that. Assuming that it is producing peak power at that speed and doesn't just rev through to it.Also, I think Honda are making too big a deal about VTEC on this new model; yes, the engine revs to 7000rpm but this isn't revvy - consider Subaru's JDM 2L turbo engines in the Impreza STI, which rev happily to 8K
This engine has to be fundamentally different to previous Honda engines imo. The market doesn't really tolerate engines that want to be rev'd and spin at 3000rpm+ to cruise on the motorway. I suspect this engine will be much more balanced in terms of output than it's predecessors. Whether it's better or worse for that - only a test drive will tell. It's not just low end torque either, it's response which a massive turbo which makes power at lots of rpms isn't going to deliver.

I'd like to know what simple bolt ons would take a K20 to 270bhp. £5K on an exhaust, manifold, intake, ecu and cams might get you a genuine 250-260bhp, then you would need a diff to put the power down. Could vtec be used to get the best results in the emissions tests in this application?
I've been wanting to get back into a Type-R for years and I was hoping that this would be the car for me. Having seen this latest press release I'm just not sure - I understand the ethos but it's definitely on the limit of being over styled. I feel like I'm the wrong side of 30 to be driving around in this.

I think it's too late for Honda, They should have just made a hardcore version for their fans. I don't see many people choosing this over a Golf , Focus or Megane regardless of how good it is unfortunately.
Couldnt disagree more, if you're a Honda fan you wouldn't look twice at a Ford or Renault no matter how good the press say they are. The Honda is a premium product compared to those.VW can compete on quality but not engineering excellence. VW make the equivilent of white goods under all their various sub brands, yawn another VAG product with a 2.0t engine.. snore...
Honda are one of the few remaining companies that only make cars for themselves, no other marques.
Obviously i'm a Honda fan.
