Andy, your Man Maths is strong.... and your car choice is superb....

But really... this: "Roads are too busy to be able to go full attack mode for too long," is utterly cringe worthy.

I owned an Audi RS6 saloon from 2009-2010, and I hate to say this, but I thought it was a seriously daft car.

Sure the straight-line acceleration was impressive, but you never got over the feeling of commandeering a two-tonne boat around, and the handling in the corners was soft to put it mildly. I got 8-12mpg out of mixed London traffic. Even back in 2009 I found that mildly embarrassing. Nowadays fuel consumption like that looks Clarkson-anachronistic. And you never really got to enjoy that straight-line acceleration properly in normal driving either. One day I took it out on a race track. The brakes started smoking profusely after half an hour, so I had to cut my day short. I wasn't too bothered as anyway it really did not suit going on track - it just wasn't fun dealing with the chronic understeer.

Maybe I'm a purist, but I think "crossover" cars just don't work. At least for me. If you need a family estate for practicality, I'd say get a 3-litre A6. It'll give you 90% of the fun of the RS6 for a quarter of the price. If you want a proper performance car to enjoy on winding country roads or on track, get a 911. Or a Nissan GTR. Or a Caterham.

But hey, it's all horses for courses. If you enjoy the RS6, good for you!

I had an A6 biturbo avant for a short while, hated every minute of it, utterly dull to drive. The RS6 just made me grin like a school girl discovering what spin dryers are for

agree on the RS6 barge / boating handling, its not a car to drive 10/10ths everywhere but then you dont need to with that much grunt

I know, right? The acceleration is crazy but the lurch from 40-80 is incomprehensible as to how fast it is.. smile

As the new owner of Andy's car, I agree with all he says about the car.

Its blindingly quick and will humiliate most other things on the road.It is a tribute to the former owners that it is still in excellent condition and will hopefully remain this way despite being used as my daily.
I would even go to the point of saying it is more fun to drive than my old C63. Obviously miss the wayward rear end in the AMG but the surefootedness of the quattro gives more faith in getting around a corner in a more civilised manner and being able to power out without fear.

The ceramic brakes are awe inspiring too and threaten to stick you through the windscreen if you forget you have them and grab a load of them. However the stop start slow traffic in the city induces a bit of squealing which.

Good grief - how on earth do you still have a license - you would need monkish levels of self control not to end up with a few years of free meals at her Majesty's Travelodge!!! copjudgeyikes At some point a visit to the Autobahn must be on the cards.

I like the 0.1 mileage ticking down (sat nav directions) like the seconds on a clock on the 200mph run this poster has uploaded biggrin

"There is nothing like saying to people you have a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V10!"

And people thinking what a ..........

If I had one it would only be fellow PH'ers I would mention "rs6" to. Otherwise it's "an Audi" or "an a6". Giving it the big guns about the engine goes against the q car/stealth quality of the car.

Still an awesome car though, no doubt about that, if I had the readies it would probably be where I put them...
