I forgot to renew the VED on my car for a week this year, so as soon as I remembered the first thing I did was to go onto the internet and ask random people what I should do. Oh wait, no, I just paid it.
Just went to pay it cash in hand, and letter in other! The bloke had no idea what to do, he said I had to pay at the police station, even though the letter clearly states I should pay the GARAGE! Waste of time. He told me to come back tomorrow when the manager is there, as all their documents are locked away...
Looks like I'll be over there tomorrow.
BTW - I genuinely forgot, I saw the letter on top of the microwave where my mum put it, and wondered what it could be!
If I was going to fill and run, I'd do a lot more than £10, and I'd use different plates, and I wouldn't have wrote down my details on a special form! Numpties

How were you trying to pay for it? If it was cash then you could've paid it there and asked for a written receipt in case of further problems. If you were trying to pay by card then you won't be able to do it as the till system will need a transaction from 'something' to be able to process the payment. You can't just magic up £10 of fuel out of nowhere. In the olden days when I was a garage manager we'd just do a manual card voucher with the manual card swiper but they don't use those anymore since chip and pin.Looks like I'll be over there tomorrow.

I would suggest to you to ring the garage tomorrow during office hours and explain the situation. The easiest solution by far would be pay it in cash when the manager is there and get him to issue you with a receipt in case of any comeback with the cops.
