Think it may have been me who sold it to you back then!

IMO the Cloverleaf is the only one of these to have. Very nearly bought one a few years back.

Photos don't do that car justice. It was only when I first saw one in the flesh - an all silver Super - and was able to see the way the bodywork pinched at the doors and stretched out around the wheels that I understood why everyone was raving about the looks

It's nice to see the 164 getting some appreciation on here! I love my 12V Cloverleaf despite the few issues it has and the rather tatty paintwork...it never fails to put a smile on my face. It's mainly the noise, the old 12V V6 certainly knows how to sing! I rescued this one from a field where it was slowly rotting away, and spent the next year and a bit fixing it up...it was my first project car at 19 (22 now). I can't see myself ever parting with it - I'd never make my money back anyway!

However, bringing one dead 164 back to life apparently wasn't painful and/or expensive enough, so I'm currently 'recommissioning' my second 164, a modified 1994 Q4. So far, it's making my Cloverleaf look easy...

Long story short - great cars, heavily underrated and far too rare unfortunately. It's good to see people looking after theirs too smile

Had Black 164 24v cloverleaf. The white one above looks glorious and i loved mine. Super reliable but the then wife didn't want it and it was replaced with an e39 530i manual.

Much regret! BMW suffered more in 10000 miles than the 164 did in double that. It was a great car, my second favourite of all I have had but it was still second to my 164

Think they'll let you in for free!! You were right, it was a very rare car in white, it was the only one we ever had. I had a lovely red one a few years ago, I'll try and find some pics, that ate up a load of money too. I do concur that they are an unsung hero - in many ways a nice drive than the 156 GTA and way better than any 166.

Despite having a wonderful engine the V6 is IMO a less rounded package than the 2-litre twinspark version.

Took a V6 for a drive, shortly before deciding to buy a Saab 900 turbo (GM version) instead.
The Alfa V6 couldn't accelerate in a straight line - too much torque steer.
The Alfa V6 couldn't brake in a straight line - inadequate ABS.

Characterful cars. Although nowhere near £4,500 of character! smile

The twinspark is underpowered for the chassis. I've had a 164 and have a 166. Both Busso 3 litre. It's what the car needs and is a heavenly combination.

I had two V6 Lussos back in the early 2000s, the first lasted 4 months before I accidentally rolled it into a field. I was gutted, I loved that car. The second faired better.

People complain about the torque steer but I found it added to the entertainment. It made the car feel more powerful than it really was, a sort of positive character flaw!

When I first got my 164 I had just parted company with an Mgbgt, before that I had minis so 190bhp was a hell of a step up, which probably explains why I binned it so quickly.

If I had the cash I would add another to my collection, they are great fun.

The Twin Sparks did feel lighter on their feet and ultimately handled better than the standard 3 litre, however the Cloverleaf with the adaptive dampers was a different beast altogether although it did still torque steer. My big beef with the Twin Spark 164 was refinement, at 80mph in 5th you were doing around 4000rpm and the noise was horrendous, OK it forced you to speed up to 90mph which was no bad thing but somehow the Alfa Nord Twin Cam didn't suit the 164s character, in the sportier 75 yes.

Living in Italy in the mid 90s I owned a 164 2.0 V6 Turbo which had been tweaked up to 280bhp or so from the standard 200bhp, the torque steer when the boost came in was a handful! A little known fact is the early 164 Turbos used the Lancia/Fiat Lampredi 2.0 Twin Cam from the Thema/Integrale 8V - possibly the first petrol Alfa to use a non Alfa engine?

I agree, but that's sort of why I loved the one I had occasional use of in I think 1989 or 1990 when it was new. Along with the outrageously lovely sound it made.

As requested in the original article, here are some more details:

The car has a full and complete service history. The service book is stamped up, the original books/manuals are in mint condition, the keys are original, the stereo is the one if left the dealership with - a Blaupunkt with code. The receipts total more than £32,000. It's just had a full respray taking over a month and has been detailed and photographed for a forthcoming classic car mag article. As noted the cambelt and water pump have just been replaced and the rear subframe has been re-rustproofed. It has wanted for nothing throughout its existance.

Very diffuclt to accurately price a car like this but it's been valued at £6,000 by two separate qualified car valuation specialists, independently of one another. A potential buyer is coming to view it in the next week or so. The price is my problem but if I can't get what I want for it, I won't sell it.

Glad it's getting some attention and generating some discussion. Wish someone had warned me about the 10% offer though - I laughed so hard I think I ruptured something wink

Surprised that no one has spotted the LHD 166 3.0 I also have for sale on here. I'm waiting for the money for that to arrive before ending the advert, but it has sold for tge full asking price. Hoping I've been as accurate with the value of the 164 as I was with the 166...

It has been mentioned in one of the 'cheap barges' threads I think, the neptune grey one with red leather?
