doesn't the 20 limit apply to the cyclist as well? He strikes me as a bit of a plonker.
Speed limits do not apply to cycles, he is a plonker though. London is pretty dog eat dog, but I'd not try that overtake, the bike peddling flat out can barely make up much ground on the cars so seems a little stupid to risk being squashed for little gain.
Like a lot of riders. I've been through Richmond Park loads and loads of times. Yes, I've overtaken cars as well.
TBH It's 50/50.
Rider thinks he's at the back of the peleton trying to jump the team cars. Didn't really give himself any options if things changed. He made a mistake really.
BUT
Driver did deliberately close the gap. Pretty stupid thing to do since he then ends up tailgating the car in front. So it's not like he achieved anything other than start the shouting match. As mentioned above, he couldn't take being overtaken. Must be hard for him in life generally
And I daresay if you replace "Rider" with "PHer in their car". And the same scenario occurred. You'd see a different outcome on this thread. Think we've all been for that overtake and when alongside, the other driver speeds up as you are affronting their manliness. I also like to think that if I'm overtaken when driving, that the other person is in more of a hurry than me. Maybe their wife is in labour. So not really worth obstructing them is it? Why get caught up in trivialities???

What a shock. Cyclist gose for a safe and legal overtake (after several other safe and quick overtakes) Car speeds up to close the gap, in breach of the Highway Code, cyclist must be at fault for assuming that the car would not try and block him... Classic PH reaction to a cyclist.
Cyclist arrived relatively quickly behind the merc, He has no idea if the Merc is aware of his presence. The Merc has a small safety gap between him and the car in front. Bike hasnt been there long enough to know if the driver holds this kind of gap for long periods.
Bike has a slightly faster speed with on coming traffic.
Decides to go for it, even as he is going to start the pass attempt the already small gap is already closing, still commits.
Car drivers a *unt, did it really matter that a cyclist was going to overtake? Seeing that he was not exactly speeding to overtake the car in front, so really no ground was being lost and he wasn't being delayed.
When the driver makes a move like that the reactions of the cyclist should not be judged as obliviously the driver created the conditions for this to happen. I'm sure we all sit quietly in our cars when other drivers do something stupid and don't swear or give hand gestures, just because it's a cyclist doesn't make him wrong. You can't judge the cyclist after the event, and apply to what the driver did first and justify the driver.

Cars speed up and slow down all the time??!!Some cyclists have a point. This one does not. We live in the real world, not highway code world. Even if he feels badly done by there are ways to point that out. If he goes round behaving like that he'll end up another statistic.
Most motor insurance policies have an exception clause relating to pace-making or speed testing and so on. The trouble with many cyclists today is that they are constantly doing something very similar by trying to better their Strava stats on public roads. This leads to frustration with traffic and bad tempers when things don't go well.
Sadly it can some times have tragic consequences. I wonder if that was what happened to the unfortunate gentleman who was killed after colliding with a stationery tractor and trailer local to me.
