My dad has one of these which me and the wife took to France a few years ago for 2 weeks (somehow managed to pack 2 weeks into the boot with the roof down! Utilizing all space in the front and behind the seats) and it was great to pop the roof down.

My old man wanted a folding hard top for the benefit of having both hard top and convertible and it really works well in this. Its only on about 40k miles as well and had been looked after the 1st owner very well.

I think we may be taking it down to cornwall this year too, time to get a burnt head again...

Wouldn't even touch one of these with your mates-cousins-brothers barge pole.

The only redeeming feature I've found was the option of warm air blower for your neck.

Loads of info and spares on the web, it starts, goes and has an MOT so cant be that bad for someone with some spannering skills.

Buy it, fix it up, run it and then move it on and make a few quid.

These haven't aged too well (in looks or body work). That said, it was a decent car and the 320 was a joy to drive. Then of course there was the 32! Not driven one, but having owned every 55 after (each heavily modified for extra power and noise) I sure would like to.

Another point to mention is that for those of us slightly on the lanky side, the SLK affords much more room in the driving position than most of its rivals. Z3/4, Boxster, MX5, early TT, etc are all a bit of a no-no for me, but I can quite comfortably fit in the Merc

Actually, is an SLK32 now the cheapest way into an AMG? Must go and check the classifieds

W208 CLK55 AMG is probably the cheapest. Saw one late last year going for £4k.

surely ABS light on = MOT fail (and no light during ignition switch on test also = fail so no sneaky wire cutting..)?
Current ticket expires Sep 17 so you'd get 1 summer from it I suppose.

Sensible MOT testers will pass a car even though the ABS light is on if their mechanics have previously/regularly attempted to 'solve the problem' at the owner's request, and found that there is no problem.
