RE: All-new Toyota Land Cruiser launched
Discussion
That looks like a really good update. Just because something is rugged and meant to be abused there is no need in 2023 to use crappy 20th century plastics and not make the driver's position as pleasant as possible.
As we head towards 2035 one of these would possibly make a pretty sound cockroach car.
Arguably a plug-in hybrid would be most useful given how local authorities are clamping down ahead of any national agenda which remains pretty flexible and easy.

This is the first time that I've both been aware of a new car 'reveal' in advance of it happening, and being actually very interested in it. I think this looks brilliant - the only thing I was a bit disappointed about from reading US commentary on the launch was that it didn't seem to be available as a seven-seater, however clearly it will be in the UK. Plus there will be a diesel available too, even better. For all the bores whanging on about how this isn't a 'real' Land Cruiser, A) if Toyota are happy to call it that then that's good enough for me, and B) this is built on the same platform as the 'proper' Land Cruiser and shares quite a bit with it. I would dearly like this to be my first ever new car, so I await the prices with keen interest...

This isn’t the proper new Land Cruiser. The LC300 series was introduce two years ago. This is a simply updated version of the current Prado (a face lift inside out with the same chassis and drive train). I know the real Land Cruisers aren’t sold in Western Europe. But Prado should be at least mentioned once in the article in order to let to let the readers know this isn’t the all new Land Cruiser. The difference between Prado and Land Cruiser is much bigger than the difference between RRS and FFRR, they have totally different chassis and drivetrains, whereas RRS at least shares the same chassis and drivetrain as FFRR…

What's with the two different front end styles? Maybe I missed it but I can't see anything in the text to suggest what that is about...
It alludes to it right at the end - the round-headlights version is the limited 'first edition' one of which there will be 3,000 made. After that it's square headlights all the way. Debrooker said:
I've hated Toyota's styling on the Landcruiser of late, but really like the look of this.
They have been incredibly ugly. With the round lights, the best looking Land Cruiser since the 1990s.
I can see this car being a huge hit globally. Then they might fix the daddy LC too.

So happy with this announcement. The only thing which will replace my current Land Cruiser is the new Land Cruiser. Shame it's not the full-fat version, but it never has been in the UK. The Prado is good enough for 99% of situations.
After the Defender (awful, just, no), Jimny (awesome, but too small) and the Grenadier (waay to small in the second row even for children), this is the one which gets it right IMHO.
My only criticism is that a couple of larger engine options would be nice, but in reality, the 204bhp lump does the job intended.

The 'Land Cruiser' has been a family of vehicles rather than a single model for decades, and if any is likely to be claimed to be the 'real' one, it would be the 70-series, beloved of mining companies, NGOs and terrorists. Further, this one is now based on the same GA-F platform as the 300.
