RE: 1000bhp Bike from TVR Power
Discussion
TVR Power's next project is to create iron pants capable of withstanding the awesome forces of the explosing decompression of the riders bowels when the accelerator is twisted.

Having driven that 1/4 mile in my Rover once or twice, seeing it go past THAT quickly is frankly mind boggling. I have seen vids of Very Fast Cars doing the 1/4 (8 ish sec passes) but nothing even comes remotely close to that.
I think you'd have to have balls of hardened steel to even think about possibly contemplating riding that thing.

At the recent PRI show in Florida last month I had a chat with the owner/rider of the 2nd 5 sec.(1/4 mile) bike of this type.
TooTallPaul is correct, the Puma bottom end is used in lieu of Suzuki. The upper end, on his bike, was also purpose built. What was interesting was how LITTLE maintenance was required, i.e the top end doesn't come off during a race weekend & that between meetings the motor is stripped but FEW if any parts are replaced (except rings & valve springs). Crankshafts last the whole season.
He said there is MUCH more power available (1700 cc's & more boost) but believes that 5.7sec. is about as fast as a sane(?) person dares go. A VERY impressive toy!!!

Last year in Old Town, Orlando, Florida I had a go on te Dragsters. They are on a track, and all you have to do is floor the throttle and hang on when the light goes green.
0-110 in under two seconds, then 110-0 in one second.
Absolutely astonishing experience - I cannot begin to imagine what it would be like to do this on a bike without tracks to hold you in place.
If you are ever in Florida I cannot recommend the experience highly enough, it cost about £30 for two runs, for weeks after my TVR felt positively pedestrian.

I believe that most Top Fuel (ie running nitro methane) bikes (which are often based on Harleys) are producing around 1000 bhp anyway.
Nitro Methane is effectively an oxidising agent as I understand it. Add to the methanol the engine normally runs on, and you can double the power (or more).
When they add the nitro to an engine that has been started on methanol, the engine turns evil and starts "cackling" and spitting flames. It is really something to see and hear.
T/F cars are producing 6000+bhp and are considerably quicker than these bikes. If you haven't seen two cars side by side accelerate from 0-300 (that's three hundred) mph in less than 5 secs, I suggest you get yourself to Santa Pod for a Top Fuel meeting this year. You won't regret or forget it.
