nasty nasty nasty excuse for a car and should be a source of national shame. they should have a head on in it with a marina or ital (unmanned obviously)
Judged by todays standards maybe, but what else was there around at the time that was significantly better?

These things were made so badly I doubt there actually are any ropey ones left, only those which have been cherished and polished after every trip to the shops will remain.

I actually think the front grille looks quite good, shame the rest of it looks like a bag o' sh*te, pretty daring for the 70's though.

As much as BL gets ridiculed, it was the closest the UK has ever come to playing any major roll in the automobile industry (our motor racing heritage aside) - with a prolific output of models and engines, and some interest technology under its belt, there is a very good hours worth of material which I think any car enthusiast would be fascinated to sit and learn from.

Of course, fat chance that the time will be accurately chronicled by Top Gear. Expect the corrupt version of the truth with the heavy bias on entertainment, plus puerile and destructive antics.

its only got 26k on the clock because its been broken since 1984 rolleyes

Sorry folks, but that is a heap of crap. And if the previous owner cared so much for it, why did he flog it to Clarkson or anyone assiciated with the BBC for that matter?

I'm sure Clarkson did a decent (and reasonably sympathetic) treatment of BL some years ago - possibly for his Car Years programme, but then again I doubt that kind of format would be used for a - what is it now? - 6 million plus viewer prime time show.

Do we know for certain that it's going to be wrecked?

Most of the cars that have been smashed up on that show have been pretty much pups (you can usually see sills rusted to hell on the close-up shots, and so on) but that might be a consequence of what can be got in the time, for the money.

I lost a lot of respect for them with the 10K supercar piece, and JC buying a Maserati Biturbo merely to drop a skip on it.

Too much 'entertainment' and not enough petrol these days.

I knew someone who had one at work, I think it was a pool car, and the lease was for it to go back at 30000 miles, but as no one wanted to drive it, they put it on axle stands and left it running all day to get the mileage up!
(No, I don't know why they didn't just wind the numbers forward!)

Thats exactly the type of car that ruined the British car companys, its a good job jap cars are being built over here or we would have virtualy no car industry at all (a few sports cars built in a shed doesn't count as an industry)

I was quite gutted when he trashed that red Mazerati, it looked mint & had a V8 iirc. I'd of had that.

There can't be many of these left, and why wreck a good one? (if indeed they are going to wreck it?).
^^^What he said^^^

Whilst its not exactly a head turner now, its British, in good nick, very comfortable, and would serve some old codger for many miles still.

Find a matchbox jap poobox to smash up Clarkson.

That was also a rusty old shed.

And, where does it officially say they do wreck the Princess anyway or is someone just suggesting it and everyone else has just jumped to the conclusion that it must be true?

Some friends of my parents had just taken delivery of a brand spanking new Princess a few days before we all went on holiday to France - just the other side of the channel, near Nantes, the suspension collapsed - the nearest campsite was a far as we got on that holiday rolleyes.

I hope they don't wreck it.

the Maserati was scrap. it looked nice but after they dropped the skip you could see why it was condemned. it was totally rotten.
