On numerous occassions the Ford has out accelerated BMW drivers who try to over take it, in their 520i's.
Says it all really. Worst 'my Dad can't even afford a base model BMW and hell is he bitter about it' thread ever.
Why didnt you compare it to a 320i? 5 series is a much larger car than a mondeo.

That just reinforces that you're a , and so is your dad.I'm with Mr Sharpton here, your OP warrants the insult and your dad's driving from what you describe is definitely worthy

BMW drivers are, more often than not, cocks, and deserve to be humiliated.
Can you enlighten us as to your glittering driving career during which you have come to this conclusion? Or is it merely a continuation of your PH career trend of talking cobblers? As to this

No one I know that can afford to spend 150k on a car would go anywhere near a Mondeo.
Still like to know what YOU drive.
As for all BMW drivers being cocks, we've earned the right now go away you cretin!
Slightly back on topic, but isnt the new Mondeo approximately the same size as a new 5 Series ? Which presumably means that FoMoCo think a Focus is comparable to a 3 Series ?
Like most things in life, if you overlook the badge (be it BMW, Audi, Gucci or Prada) the cheaper alternative is often just as good. However, since I too follow the herd & aspire to all things Teutonic & beautiful , Id go for the 5 Series everytime (though suspect its twice the price).

1-series = focus
3-series = mondeo
5-series = (no ford model, but would have been scorpio i guess)
^^^^ just re-checked it & yes, the new Mondeo is comparable in size to the 5 Series. Previous generation was always more spacious than the 3 Series anyway.
Presumably reasoning behind this is that as Ford cant compete directly with BMW because of badge kudos, they instead offer a markedly larger car for the same price as the smaller model. Hence size of a 5 Series for the price of a 3 Series. Thats as clear as mud eh ?

I think people are reading too much into this. Simple fact of the matter is a 520i would smoke a mondeo 2.0. Its a 6 cylinder car with 150bhp.
150bhp is barely adequate in a 1500kg car. The Mondeo is lighter and has about 140bhp (depending on year) so there's nothing in it. mackie1 said:

After a debate with some friends about whether you would own a saloon with a snazzy badge, or go for simple practicality, I thought I'd ask.
If you have to ask, there's no point discussing it.BMW every time.
RWD versus FWD and build quality alone would
settle it for me.
Just to hammer the point home, you are almost
always better off with a bottom of the range
model from a better manufacturer than you are
with a top of the range model from an inferior
manufacturer.
I think this is in Car Buying 101.

After a debate with some friends about whether you would own a saloon with a snazzy badge, or go for simple practicality, I thought I'd ask. As you know, we went with the Ford. The Ford out lasted the very BMW my dad test drove, and it's still going now. On numerous occassions the Ford has out accelerated BMW drivers who try to over take it, in their 520i's. The Ford averages 44mpg at 80mph on motorway cruises. Does anyone else think that some of these BMWs are a little over rated, and that the humble Ford Mondeo is actually a damn good car at what it does?
I tend to just pop my wipers on and barge through your tinny Mondeo on my way to the next drug deal.Driven a few miles in both and the BMW is by FAR the better car.
Dave!
They're good cars, if you can look beyond the badge, my cousin has a two litre one and I can't fault the build quality or refinement - controls are nicely weighted too.
I know a guy who's got a garage that's had (and has) more than its fair share of tasty metal in it and he has a Mondeo as an "anonymous" car to park at stations or pile miles onto - takes it across Europe regularly, no complaints, I think the true test of this sort of car is when someone who can get behind the wheel of a big V8 luxury GT doesn't mind taking the humble Ford when necessary.
For some reason driving their Mondeos doesn't seem to bring on raging small man complex when overtaken though. That must be an optional extra.
