Aside from the forgettable-ness of it, which is probably going to be a good thing, does it not strike anyone else as being really short compared to say the current Vectra and Mondeo etc

That boot badge thing is hideous as well.
According to Autocar, the Insignia is actually longer than the new Mondeo. Which means it must be really really tall to give it the look of shortness it has...

Wow, and the Mondeo is bigger than most things on the road anywya.

I wonder if by 2010 we'll have to have hgv licenses to drive family saloons.

Does anyone actually buy these midsize cars that dont have a 'premium' badge anymore? No wonder they couldn't be arsed.

Not to keen on the rear, but it looks alright from the front and sides.

No worse then its competitors in that respect really.

I bet it'll look no worse in pov-spec than anything else. All cars seem to be designed to look best with 18-in wheels now but the entry level always have little narrow 15-in wheels that look wrong. The 3-series is probably the most obvious with the rear wheels being inset about 6 inches into the wheel arches, you need the 17 inch 255 section wheel/tyre combo for it to look decent.

They've swiped the "fin" from BMW and, in the 3rd picture of the OP, are they not almost carbon copies of the Focus ST's wheels?
I think the VXR models had similar wheels before the ST came out.

EFA thumbup

Another XF/Sirocco style scandal afoot here... beautiful concept let down by the execution... I was looking forward to this, not taken in by naff 80's deodorant humour... judging by scoops the thing was not as gargantuan as the Mondeo.. nice teaser shots of rear lights... resurgent design language since Astra... and now this... well I suppose there is still the fact it might drive well and might look better when we actually see it unveiled (these are CGI renderings still aren't they?)

but on the whole, yep, they've fluffed, C5, Passat, Mondeo, Avenisis put in pot, with a sprinkle of GM jewellery, gas mark 6 for 3 months and hey presto. I think they should have bucked the trend and released something more like the Signum ...not that I'm biased. One that handled and had its styling brought up to date, but the concept of a more practical 5 seater in a better looking body....

Front end looks American. Side looks French and the back German. I am surprised it has not got the Honda Triangle exhausts.
Bound to be a top seller.

Personally if i was (forced) to buy a car in this sector, you have the choice of the Insignia, the Blandeo, The Passhat etc etc, all of which are dull as dishwater to look at, or....

Looks alright to me, and what's wrong with the name?

Blimey there's no pleasing you lot: if designers go out on a limb (Bangle BMWs, Fiat Multipla, Renault Megane) you get people bleating about ugly cars, then if they style them conservatively it's "bland".

It's a repmobile, no point in giving it love it/hate it looks!

I like that Mazda6 though.

Incidentally, looking at the picture of the red Mazda6 again, does it have the funkiest rear lights on sale today?

They look like the sort of lights they put on concept cars then make utterly bland for production...

Its the details for me, like the front wings (a lot like the RX-8), very curvy and athletic.

the best thing about those mazda 6s is that they are 'for real' they actually DO look really good (for that sort of thing). it's not a case of airbrushandloweringspringsagogo - they ARE nice looking. not buying autocar anymore i have no idea if they are any good..but in terms of 'showroom appeal' they're up there with saab now for producing stuff that looks good with out being too 'obvious' or contrived.

this insignia is 'okay' i am sure it'll look fine on a barratt estate.
