Stupid question from MoP, but what does provisional mean in terms of an auction? The car will sell at the price If the seller agrees as it is around a reserve or something?
From the top of his post thumbup

2. Provisional - you are the highest bidder but haven't met the reserve. Manheim will try and broker a
deal between you an the vendor (either you move up or the vendor moves down). You are bound to buy the car if the vendor moves his reserve down to your bid, but are not bound to offer any extra. (Plus buyer's premium as before)
rolleyes

I think I'm going to run a poll - who actually reads my posts and who just looks at the pretty pictures hehe

That Mondeo ST TDCi is ludicrously priced! I got almost £6k for mine (similar age/milage) in a private sale in December.

Thanks again for your report V8 biggrin. Really makes interesting reading. Were there any MX-5's through today that you spotted?

It's the colour!

The Cayman was the only obvious bargain there. The rest are just normal and what I would expect to pay for Euro Jap A-B tin tops. The 111R seemed a decent price, but its a frigging cold cpl of days at the start of Jan. What did you expect?

always an interesting read, top work smile

some bargains but this looks very expensive

2006 56 Volkswagen Golf 2.0 GT TDi 170 5dr. 122k. £6,900 SOLD

so £7250 by the time you add buyers premium then there's the service and tyres it might need.

Looking at random there are nice sub 50k mile 5 door TDI GT Golfs around at dealers for under £8k.

The 170bhp engine adds the premium. It'll be 140bhp models at 8k.

Good work again V8, I was at an auction today and cars were making powerful money relative to Glasses guide but given how little a lot of this kit books at today then I understand why they appear cheap.

Appear cheap? I thought the reverse was true; seemed like buyers were desperate for anything apart from the very lumpiest stock.

I bumped into a chap I worked with 10 years ago. He works for a Ford main dealer; had come along with 3 colleagues desperate for stock (not just Fords) they could retail between £5000-£7500.

Ummm like the Cayman could have been tempted by that...
Also fancy the X-Type that spec would have been circa 31K new, that would also have tempted me.

I agree, they are not cheap enough for me, I went looking for five or six and only came back with one but as Tonker rightly points out the percentages against list of many of these cars make them look mega cheap to anyone out of the trade and to be fair they still are compared to what this stuff was booking at six months ago.

True but there are 170bhp ones out there with less miles from a dealer too, like this at £7249 before haggling. 2004 GT 170 tdi 80k miles with satnav. Sure I could find a lower milage 5 door too.

To be fair that is cheap enough (albeit provisional) but I think the trade is becoming more discerning about cars in the wrong spec.

That car books at £14075 but with leather interior. You immediately take a grand off for no leather and then you consider that it is a boiled egg.

It needs to be bought for £11-£11500 (I expect the vendor was after £12k) and retailed for as much as the market will stand given other like examples.

Saab dealers aren't too keen on discussing resale values of 9-3's (bitter experience) - not surprising when you see an '07 diesel estate going for less than a third of its new value.

Those Lexuses (Lexii??) seem to be depreciating a bit quicker than you might expect...

But that's 2 and a half years older and a three door. The Golf today wasn't badly priced. Most are for sale between £11 and £13k with regular miles; that one would fetch top end four figures.

Mainly seemed decent prices but that fiesta seemed a bit expensive went to the auction in December and saw a similar 5 door model in green on a 57 plate 10k miles go for 3750 in Walsall. And we just brought my mum a 06 plate 1.4 3dr ghia from a dealer for the same price that boggo spec one went for (4750). However looking at the prices I would say overall they are creeping back up and some of the bargains on mainstream cars were before Christmas at auction rather than now although bigger engined cars still seem like remarkably good value. Also as my dad found out a lot of the small cars now seem to be at a premium at auction and not that many around either so ended up buying from a dealer as they have a lot of fiesta's that need to be shifted due to the arrival of the model and actually have prices very close to ones at auction once commission is take into account.
