The BTR's are everywhere, there's loads of them with importers and stuff, along with most other russian kit. So a short squirt (worth the risk) in your current car to get there, and jobs a good 'un.

Hilux, I like your thinking!

Mine was Multifuel - and you can carry plenty of provisions too!

Sure it's a little on the heavy side, and not terribly economical, but pffft, it's the apocalypse, you're only going to get eaten by zombies in your sleep, probably by having your arms broken at the top first...

Adhering to the orignial criteria a bit more, i'd go with something a bit more mundane, common and as multi fuel capable as possible.

It's the apocalypse, so we don't care about MOT's or emissions or road safety in fact. I'd go for a French diesel- old 405/309/505/Xantia/Ronin style XM. As long as it drives it's ok.

Run it on diesel, veg oil, plenty of range in the tank, not particularly rare, plenty of parts.

Alternatively one step further is to find a big old American Cummins diesel engined pickup as i think they can run on engine oil too.
It's the end of the world... You can have anything you want... Fuel is free and you'd go for an old French diesel?

You sir, will have you brains eaten as soon as your fuel filter heater fails and then I will mock you from the BRC/Landy/HiLux.

This is what you need:

Bowler Wildcat. Perhaps not the most economical, but you need it! biggrin

I'll take the nemesis, although i think the wildcat looks pretty awesome

edit: apparently it's now the QT Wildcat and not the bowler, manufacturing rights been handed over to QT? Still, it's amazing

My old Pajero diesel will see me through.
If it can keep going when it's full of 4 star, it can run on anything.
Nice big sun roof to drop the twin .5 machine guns as well.

Universal Carrier (aka the Bren Carrier)

Good for 30mph offroad, light, resistant to small arms fire, will run on 1930s 80 Octane fuel, or anything else vaguely explosive.

.55 Boys Anti-Tank Rifle and .303 Bren mountings as standard.
