Its amazing what can be achieved with so little, I wonder if he is a mechanic by trade or just did it as a hobby?

I don't see how anyone can critise that - fair play to the bloke for having a go!

Am I the only one wandering why Mr Sheen is building a car?

What you have to remember is.. nower days you can get get 200+hp/litre easially, and 120hp/litre with reliability ( e.g the XFR )
erm, am I missing something?
confused Me too...
I think the bit you're missing is that IIRC one of the original McLaren F1 design requirements was to have an engine delivering >100hp/litre.

BTW - I'm another one who would give A+ for effort. : )

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR FQ-400 makes c400bhp from 2.0 litres from the factory with a full manufacturers warranty. And that was 5 years ago.

Hats off! Looks like a pretty good effort.

I wonder what Mr Dennis thinks...
This is the new division that Ron is going to head up, building McLarens for the buying public.

I thought It was designed to have 550bhp at a certain weight - it ended up over 600 but a little over the weight. I doubt they would have been to fussed about bhp/ltr as it doesnt make any difference...

Certainly not disputing the fact that engines with these stats exist (though I'd suggest that N/A ones are rare) it was more that I was confused about the relevance of the statement to the topic.

Quite probably... I don't know/can't remember. (don't really care either...)

However, I do distinctly remember one of the comments when launched was about them wanting 100hp/ltr. I'm assuming that this was what was being referred to and as there were a couple of people confused by this statement, I thought I'd just fill in a blank... Just being helpful : )

you have to applaud guys like this - albeit bonkers and left in a shed for far too long. Amazing, he probably will end up with quite a nice looking machine. At least he didn't build it in his basement and have to tear half his house apart to get it out. Lambo stuck in bassment oh how i laughed! another fine example though... gifted - yet bonkers

That lambo is amazing, mind his basement looked better kitted out than some engineering workshops i've been in.

Polish fella has skills as well, much more desirable than an Audi TT based on a metro!

Wonder if he is gonna line the engine bay with gold for that authentic look?

Crucially though the McLaren F1 had to use an N/A engine to meet its targets. I don't think there are any 200bhp/litre roadcar engines and the Jag XFR example given is supercharged.

Well done that man a very good effort, will look even better when its had a paint job.

Shame the PH journalist couldn't tell a V8 from a V12, poor motoring journalism.
Well, i count six inlet runners per side in the third pic. So to me it's a V12 too. Maths has never been my strong point though, but it's nice to see that others share the same failings smile

That F1 is ok, but it's not as good as a really decent, properly faithful reproduction.

I wonder just how many of us would undertake such a complex project. Not many i bet!!! Fair play to the man, he is a very talanted engineer and deserves high praise for making such a lovely kit car from absolute scratch!!

Hats off!! bow
