Lap times are far more indicative of a cars performance than a quarter mile drag race, especially when those laps are round the Nurburgring:

BMW 335d chipped by Wetteraurer to 340bhp and 700nm - 523.12
BMW 123d unmodded - 532.95
BMW M3 V8 unmodded - 485.00

And for the sake of comparison, a modest MPS 6 like mine with the same weight as the 335d, 65bhp less and pretty much half the torque and 4WD which rarely helps track times - 524.74 ( not mapped or modded wink )

Makes for interesting reading.

lol good on the oil burner but the cars are wolrds apart when it comes to how they drive. Who the fk wants 5K revs and an engine note that sounds like a tractor.

Is it just me or don't the BHP and torque figures on mapped 335d ever seem to be reflected in the actual lap times? How can you have RWD, more power, wider tyres, nearly twice the torque and only be a second and a half faster than something like my MPS after 13 odd miles of track? It just doesn't add up. confused

I drive a bmw and a Cerbera so I have no preconceived ideas about tts in BM's. Sadly the only time anyone has hassled me on the motorway when in the Cerb (a 450hp/400lbs torque sub 1200kgs car) has been 335D's with something to prove, enough said.

I'd much rather have the M3. I don't care about which car goes fastest in a straight line, it's all about the overall driving experience.

I may only have dull cars at the moment but I much prefer driving my petrol car over my diesel despite the diesel being much more powerful.

I was looking on youtube to find a video to send my mate with a 335d that showed the 335d getting beaten as he had thrashed me at santa pod earlier this year when i was in my 330d.

anyway - no such luck. I cant believe it!
Your 'mate' doesn't happen to be a young fellow who appears to be on the autistic spectrum that frequents this site does he?

Balderdash.

You are either dxb335d's bum chum, or you are him. And I claim my five pounds.

I'm unimpressed. I had a 1969 car that was quicker than both of those. (12.8).

It did trip up going round corners, did 4mpg and didn't stop. And ate rear tyres every 2000 miles.

It sounded better, as well.

I really can't imagine that the 'only' people to have a pop at the TVR was 335d's.

Lighter, I think. Apart from the 25 gal fuel tank. It worshipped a faster, but less civilised God.

True, but most drop back if I feather the throttle and spit flames onto their bumpers whilst assaulting the ears with the pops and bangs :hehe.
But seriously one particular 335d had so much to prove he thought he'd drive on the hard shoulder for a bit just to get ahead of me through the three lanes of backed up traffic, for some reason 335ds have stuck in my mind ever since......

i know what you mean about stock vs stock but basically everyone gets their 335d remapped so thats what you're going to come up against.
Did you pull that out of your own backside? Or the general backside of internet hearsay?

Many have gone from a fast diesel, 535d remapped, 335d remapped to and M3 and been over the moon.

Many have gone from an M3 to the fast diesels and back again.

I can't think of a single person who has gone from a 335/535d to an M3 and said "you know what, this is a dog compared with the derv"

Surely it's only fair stock vs stock?
The M3 in the second vid wasn't standard. However, blah blah blah M3 better track car, handles better, looks better if a bit dated nowdays, is very cheap to buy. The 335d at best is a great work hack that can rack up motorway miles with ease. Different cars completely and a straight line comparison is just one of many that doesn't offer a full assessment of the differences between the cars. 335D owners, or certain "drivers" of 335d's appear to have become obsessed with using the M3 as a "benchmark" car to comapre against in a striaght line....
