Its always a sad day when Diesel beats V8.

(I'd still have the V8 though)

Nice Papa H,
170kph in a 110 Wolf FFR is good going (was that with Radios?). We'd occasionally get up there while rallying our Armed Forces Rally Team Wolves on the British Rally Champs. I guess it must have been well run in. Although we did trial a 'Super Wolf' in Iceland one summer on the Rally Reykjavic, tweaked pump, bigger intercooler (i think i was spec'd by Penman Eng) and that had packed a bit more grunt. I only managed to get a paltry 97mph in mine as i was delivering it from Middle Wallop to the Rollcage builders in Wales.

Nice to see someone developing that TD5 engine though.
Yep, was fully fitted out, just had Bowman plugged in at JHQ. Only picked up two that day, me and best mate having a big balls competition in autobahn traffic. In retrospect, 170 is stupid but hey, 2.5 tonnes of metal sure picks up speed downhill, it had to be done. Didn't even know we had a rally team... suppose I should have gone and found that out for myself. Kudos to you too, 97mph isn't to be sniffed at either!

AGREED! They are pretty scary at speed, especially the GS ones with the covers flapping and banging around!

Edit as saw it had radios in as well! You, sir, are a certifiable lunatic! I salute you! thumbup

Good work,I'd forgotten they even existed! Did you get it from the place in Bedford (sorry forgot the name) or did you import it yourself?
This is why I love PH,one comment on a thread makes me realise the diversity of enthusiasts and cars out there--sorry gush over!
We got ours through a guy we knew that used to source a lot of our cars, don't think it was Bedford and I think he imported it himself!

Sadly it's sitting in a friends workshop at the moment having various electrical faults and leaks addressed, and its lovely bright blue 50th anniversary paintwork is very faded frown

Soon though, it'll have a lovely new paint job and its various faults cured!... I'm even considering a Rotrex for it smile

So next year it could be Clio Cup Driver vs Carrera Cup Driver, Diesel vs Petrol hehe

I once saw my one go off the clock sitting in the slipstream of a Saab (on an autobahn).

It was frightening until the Saab moved out of the way... Then all of the panel gaps opened up and it pitched in a way that I can only describe as feeling like a plane as it begins to rotate on takeoff

On the subject of how different variants drove, what contributed to making the Wolf really scary was the amount of play on the wheel before the power steering actually made the wheels steer... not a problem on the old 110 but being the one compromise to luxury on the Wolf that made it scary as hell on a busy road at speed. I'll post up a few pics when I get home of what happens when an inexperienced driver gets behind the wheel of a Wolf...

Lord, they'll be claiming its best off road soon! Now this what a V8 should look like - well except this is Brabus, so it's a V12 with over 1000nm of torque!

Would be good to have some more information on this. I love Landies and own several (including a Tuscan race engined 110" and a 6 wheeler) and I'd love to see how the different vehicles compared.

Well done to Twisted though. They're getting lots of publicity at the moment having taken the same 90 around the Nurbugring this month, the article for that is in Land Rover Owner
Oi Mister, where's the info, spec + pics of that rather barbaric sounding Tuscan powered 110.....want want want

Remember that it was a combination of straight line and track performance. If the diesel had less kit on board (giving it a lower CofG), and better sorted suspension combined with the best available tyres then it woould win.

Surely the easiest way to win this challenge would be to fit some low profile tyres, such as 225/45/17s, lowering the Landy about 5 inches...
I might give it a go!

Papa H / Wookie.
are either of you still in? If so and are in the Aldershot area on friday, make your way down to CCS TDU as the team is having a training day at Long Valley. Check out their website ( might be a bit dated) www.armedforcesrallyteam.co.uk

HEY, THANKS FOR ALL THE POSITIVE COMMENTS ON THE FASTEST LR EVENT. IT WAS EXCELLENT FUN! I APPRECIATE THE COMMENTS ABOUT 'OFF ROAD FERRARIS' ETC AND CAN ONLY JUSTIFY IT BY SAYING, ITS A BUZZ, MAKING A VEHICLE DO QUITE THE OPOSITE TO WHAT IT WAS DESIGNED FOR! I HAVE JUST PUT A FEW VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE OF THE DAY FOR ANYONE THATS INTERESTED. THERE IS ONE THAT HAS THE ABOVE MENTIONED VEHICLE ON TWO WHEELS REAL WELL! ALSO FEATURED IS THE ZULU, OVERFINCH, FEARN ETC ETC. HAVE A LOOK UNDER TWISTED WORLDS FASTEST LR EVENT OR SEARCH UNDER BARLEYOATS123 AS THE USER.

Good to hear from twisted performance on pistonheads!

What further mods did you have to make to the TD5 to get 239bhp? I hadn't heard of any making over 200bhp before this...

Will these mods be available for public sale any time soon?!

Bloody hell that's an excellent video. (link below if anyone's interested). That's as powerful as my Scooby. I really must go and get myself a Defender next.
