... but servicing and fuel costs would soon add up if doing a lot of miles.
Anybody have any experience of these cars - is servicing really pricey?Garlick said:

Wasn't SOTW supposed to be sporty/interesting sheds and not just sheds??
You know by now that we have a soft spot for barges too? We love a good wafter in SOTW Just get one that's had the CRT instruments and the suspension sorted then you're onto a winner with the big LS.
Agree with Garlick - that spoiler is f**king awful. Doesn't suit the car at all.
To be honest, the coachline's not exactly shouting 'prestige' to me either.
Glad to see standard wheels, though - at least someone hasn't mimicked Mike Brewer's propensity for adding later wheels onto an early LS (Wheeler Dealers, anyone?).

Afternoon,
I actually was given one of these about 4-5 years ago and ran it for about a year. If i recall it had 160k on the clock but was so smooth to drive. I actually drove it to the South of Spain and across Eastern Europe.
It never let me down and never failed to start or run but in reality only returned around 18mpg most of the time.
I also spent quite a lot of replacing worn suspension, repairing the aircon and remember finding parts like brake discs suprisingly expensive as they are quite large. Otherwise everything worked on mine and in my opinion was far quieter and more refined than my Dad's 740 of the equivalent age.
Good shed like it

Did any of these come with a manual box??
Or is there a manual that will bolt up to the V8?
Nope, no manual option at the time but there's loads of guys using the engines in various conversions that go manual by using one of the adapter kits available for Toyota and Nissan boxes. See www.lextreme.comOr is there a manual that will bolt up to the V8?
The engines are truly superb and for a bit of bargetastic wafting you can beat the LS 400. I think this ones a bit overpriced however, I bought one two years younger, with 120k warranted FSH miles on it (though it needed an MOT) for £300 as a spare engine donor for my Cobra. It was too good to break though so we slapped an MOT on it and we've ran it as a snotter for two years so far.
Cheers,
Tony
This makes me feel old,I had one of the first in the uk and it was seen as probably the most advanced car available in 1990. Everyone wanted to see the dash and do the 50p test on the engine, but to me after an XJ40 the biggest surprise was the dealer service and the and the feeling of indestructability. Plus it was a bargain-for the same price I could have had a Mercedes 300SE with cloth seats and no aircon! It was a quick car in its day too, although even new it would fade its brakes to nothing in a couple of bends and bottom out in high speed motorway dips. The post 92 model which I also ran for a few months handled a lot better but seemed a bit slower from memory( the first one would show 160 and would leave a colleagues 635 for dead)
Great shed and I think the spoiler and dummy aerials just add to the slightly seedy image, realy needs some chrome arches and three spoke alloys though!

Hmm, think I would buy one just to knock the st out of it like in the bonus round of Street Fighter 2.
On a serious note, this is a good shed, suprised prices dropped so low. Although PH mentions this gave decent performance...which I think isnt. Seems very slow and underpowered for a V8, even if it was developed late 80's. 0-60 in 8.3 secs in a 241bhp car isnt nothing to shout about.
