Educate me about Monaro's....

Without doubt the best car I have ever owned.
I forgot this bit! Also, kjmac makes a good point about Waxoyl. The underseal isn't brilliant on these cars, so that is probably a cost worth factoring in at some point. Although, saying that, my car and the other Monaro I test drove were both OK underneath.

Had mine since August, never been as happy in a car as I have this, can never see me selling it.
Its not lightning quick off the line, but its not supposed to be, its a big bruising v8 muscle car with aggressive looks and a soundtrack to die for. Very very comfortable on long journeys and I usually see about 28 - 30 mpg on the motorway, helps by doing 1800 rpm at 70mph in 6th.
In gear punch is fantastic.

Can you give me an example of some of the more expensive consumables you have had to endure?
I need two new fronts at the moment so looking to get some decent rubber on there, but prices range from £80 a corner fitted to over £200, with a decent spread of tyres in the £100-£120 range.
Basically dont go to vauxhall for parts as I found my local dealer wouldnt know its arse from its elbow and they wanted £23 a spark plug and £900 for rear discs, monkfish performance have a good price list on their website for some consumables, and i am sure roger would happily speak to you about anything that isnt on there.
No cam belt either so the most expensive service is just another fluids one.
Other than that, just keep make sure you check out the areas highlighted in above posts, they are a real performance bargin.

Bloody hell, it truly is a performance bargain!
Just think, you could have this kind of sound-system under your right foot each day...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXC5OqGqjhU&fea...
Not my car, but sounds identical

You can get silly cheap parts from the US, for example my rear pads were $10+postage (not a typo!) and are perfectly adequate for how I use the car, and the slave cylinder will weigh in around £80 if the tax man doesn't get me!
Yeah? I had tried to find a few items over there, but wasnt sure on what parts were compatible with the UK VXR's from the GTO's but also from the camaros etc.Steameh said:

Hmmmmm. Very worth knowing. My Corrado is struggling to reach 29mpg on the motorway these days (used to comfortably reach the high 30's but I fitted a lower final drive) so that's eminently copeable-with.I was toying with the idea of a Monaro for a Corrado replacement, so that's worth knowing.

You've said no to the RX8 based on MPG figures...... and then started looking at a Monaro ???
My Camaro has the same engine/gearbox. The z28 is a bit lighter, but manages to average 24mpg and has seen 30.1mpg on the way to Devon camping last summer. Don't personal think an RX-8 will quite match those and they are down 100+ bhp too.Legend83 said:
