It's certainly not what it once was. Nowadays I still buy it but rarely read it from cover to cover. It is still one of my favourite motoring publications but it could be so much better if the editorial team would only take a look at the early years content

The input of Harry Metcalfe is much missed, as is the writing of Chris Harris. I quite like Catchpole in print and some of his YouTube stuff. When I look at the running reports section in the mag, wonder why there is never a Metcalfe style piece done for the Evo YouTube, especially the staff writers own cars.

I had a subscription for many years but stopped that a couple of yrs ago.

TBH i get most of my petrolhead fix on the various internet forums that are available (and free) plus there is so much great content on youtube now also.

Having said that i still buy the occasional copy - i bought one the other day (enzo and laferrari on the front, car of the year etc) and read that cover to cover.

Agree they are not the team they used to be - love catchpoles' stuff, but they need to re-invigorate now that Harry has moved on. They really would benefit from having Chris Harris back on the team but i doubt that's going to happen.

Cancelled my subscription a few months ago as Evo, along with Octane, seemed to be pumping out the same guff, albeit slightly re-cycled.

Used to buy every car magazine known to man, most of them remain in my garage taking up space, & now I only buy Classic & Sportscar and MotorSport.

I'm still a subscriber but keep finding copies still in grey plastic waiting to be opened, the excitement of it dropping on the mat and then promptly reading it all in one sitting passed a long time ago.

They still have some good articles from interesting writers, the photography is still excellent and so on - there just isn't much in the way of news when you read through, chances are someone on the Internet has either announced it or written about it a month earlier.

There is only so much they can do with the cars available of course but little things have started to annoy me, in particular they will highlight a particular design feature on a car but then not give us a photo that includes it so we can see for ourselves. Minor I know but it irritates me.

Scooped up my copy of EVO off the door matt today. I usually thoroughly enjoy reading it, but things have notably waned - and really moved apace of late. First there was the announcement of Mr Trott moving across to Motorsport. Wondering if this might be the dawn of a new era, I opened up the grey wrapping...

I had feared the eCOTY result ever since the website showed the contenders... and my guess was correct. Sigh. I can't help but think they could have at least tried to find some competition for it. I'm sure there are plenty of constraints on what they can and can't get, etc.

Secondly, and by far the biggest disappointment, was seeing the staff going out the door - seemingly following Mr Trott are some key members, chief among which are Mr Catchpole - one of the remaining reasons why I kept my subscription.

So with a heavy heart, it's time to accept the inevitable - the times they are a-changin'. I'm now looking to end my subscription. Tempted by Octane, but I may just find something else instead. While it was good, it was very good, and I will miss it I'm sure, but it's a relationship now well past its best. Anyone else having similar thoughts?

It wasn't exactly going to be a shock result with the line-up

I was a subscriber from the very early days and was getting quite bored of the content, I always said I would never cancel my subscription until Catchpole and/or Richard Porter left because I enjoyed both these writers immensely.

However even Catchpole couldn't keep me and I cancelled some time ago. I haven't missed it or even thought about it since which is a shame as it was truly a great product once.

For me it went downhill once Trott because editor really, and I am not sure how he will fit in with the senior guys at Motorsport either.

Who else has left Evo?

Been an Evo subscriber for well over a decade.

Features are becoming a dull, there are too many £100k+ cars I have no interest in owning or hope of affording. Fast Fleet was always my favorite but even that holds little interest anymore and whilst I dont agree with the Porsche conspiracy theorists, I am tired of reading about them month after month. As above, since Trott became editor it's been a long painful decline.

Learning that Jethro and Catchpole are gone was the last nail - Subscription cancelled this afternoon.

Used to religiously get the latest copy flick through, read fast fleet section and then start from
The front and read it cover to cover.

Last 6 months possibly longer just not as interested any more. It's lost it's edge.

I've been thinking of cancelling for a while. I don't read much of it now sadly. What's the easiest method of cancelling? Presumably you need to call?

For what it's worth I don't think Nick Trott has done a bad job. I quite like the £100k+ machinery. I can afford it as much as I can afford £30k stuff frankly. Eve still hits so high highs. The trouble is I just can't be bothered with much of it. i don't have the attention span to read the eCOTY article so flicked straight to see what won. I'll read a few bits relating to the cars that interest me. I do enjoy reading about their own cars. Particularly Nick Trott's 911 GT2 and 911 SC (still surprises me being a mag editor pays that well!).

I've been a subscriber for years too and will continue. I don't get all the 'who wrote it' stuff most of the time. I realise experience counts and I suppose someone like Richard Meadens opinion might carry more weight but that's it.
I like reading the Long termers too.

Must say I'm also amazed at the money some have to spend though. I didn't think it paid that well either.

To be honest (and trying to look on the bright side) I've never felt that Trott was the right fit for the magazine and see his departure as a chance to get things back again. Catchpole will definitely be missed, but then he was only brought on when other stalwarts left during the previous big exodus of talent.

Nothing stays the same for long.

I've still got 5 issues left apparently, so will get a glimpse at how things move on. I agree that Nick didn't do a bad job, to me it seemed he was slowly vanishing into the background - to be fair following Mr Metcalfe was always going to be a challenge. I miss road trips (both articles and the page on where to go, what to do etc) and slightly crazier articles (I often held out for another 'Catchpole black & white', I loved the piece on the Vantage Zagato). It's been a stream of reviews and group tests, invariably with nothing new to say, sometimes interesting cars but it's the same recipe over and over. It's been a while since I felt inspired, and that was the reason why I subscribed.

After perhaps missing the point I'm beginning to think now that things like DriveTribe will be the future.

Magazines have been suffering and feel slightly one dimensional as a format in the face of digital possibilities.
Yet any of these online alternatives I've experienced have always lacked what magazines could reasonably be relied on for - quality writing and depth of knowledge.

Combine the best aspects of both and you may be on to something.

Seeing this thread revival makes me realise I've not felt the need to buy a copy for years. I think it was the sycophantic journalism which drove me away.

You can send an email quoting your subscription password (not actually a password, more like a PIN code to confirm its yours. Its in your profile on the subscription site) saying you want to cancel. Took a couple of days to get a reply.

I wasn't cancelling because of people leaving though, I just never got round to reading the mags. I didn't find out until a couple of days afterwards.

I just stopped my Direct Debit, once my allocation of issues had arrived, that was it.

I never heard from Dennis, never got a resubscribtion offer or anything.

Think they are more bothered by app numbers these days...

I called today and cancelled both Evo and Cyclist as they had 3 and 1 issues left respectively so I owe them no money. DDs cancelled too. I'll probably take a digital sub with Cyclist as I enjoyed reading far more of that than Evo. Assuming the app for it is any good!

Haven't read it for years. I just watch Harry's Garage on UHU Tube instead now. Are magazines a dying format anyway? I'd rather watch a car review than read it tbh.
