My 106 Gti on black TD wheels and on the original silver raptors.

I personally preferred the black wheels on this.
See, to me, in the lower picture it looks like a GTi.

The top one looks like a 1.1 that's trying too hard to look cool.

There comes a time in a thread about black wheels where a certain thing has to be brought up, personally, I'm amazed the thread has got this far without any pictures of it. But now, the times as come...

My work here is done.
What's so special about that thing? Just another bland hatch with a bland colour scheme....

First car I remember with black (well dark grey) wheels from the factory was a wide bodied alfa 155 in the mid '90s. I think they were 5 spoke speedlines? and even though they were probably 15" or something, made the car look super mean in a touring car kind of way. Also red and black type R Integras had dark grey multi-spokes from the factory, and looked all the better for it.
New (old) Morgans look awesome in one of the retro body colours with black wires or proper lightweight minilights.
But as for what has become basically a fashion for black wheels on warm hatches or special edition super cars to make them appear more serious? Nah,
The Manta GTE Exclusives had anthracite alloys back in 87
I remember a lot of the Vauxhalls had black steels that were meant to be seen a good 4 or 5 years prior as well

I like the black wheels but I also like silver ones etc

I don't mind silver/black/polished/gun metal etc...but I really don't like the fashion for the silver rim some manufacturers put on their black wheels.

This surprises me really, amongst other 106 owners these wheels in black are very popular, especially on Cherry Red. At one point I did have the 15" Cyclone wheels from a 306 Gti-6 on this, they were in silver but just looked too clumsy.

didn't consider anything other then black for the wheels when I built it. Did the yellow rim tape because I like to be individual and a few others liked the wheel design and fitted them to their Rush's.

This says it all, one of the nicest I've seen . Well thought out and it works.

ETA- think if it finishes the car without the wheels standing out it's a +

Not bad at all, the stripe being a lighter colour helps but

Better IMO.

Colour sensitive, bright colours suit dark wheels - I am biased of course!

Genuinely prefer mine.
IMHO no comparison
I should hope so, it's yours! No harm in a difference of opinion though!

Can you try that again in English, confused
'Does one find that such a car, with such striking stripes along the body, unwittingly attract the attention of ne'er-do-wells who may then wish to converse with you in 'street slang' and perhaps indicate they think the car is unwell by declaring it 'sick'?

I was more referring to people in modified cars (often japanese turbos) wanting to have some form of drag race in the middle of town, just because you've inadvertantly shared a red light. I used to get it a lot when I lived in Manchester - and I've never had anything quite so unsubtle as 2 rather large racing stripes on me bonnet =)

I'm contemplating painting my wheels darker (Just a home refurb, they are only tatty rotas) as the white wheels look naff IMO, get dirty so so easily and I just don't like them. I'm not fussed about going black but will be going darker. I don't think silver would suit the wheels on the var without looking bland.

The roof will also be going black from the bottom of the pillars up and a black bonnet and carbon boot to work it all together.
Mine:

Will be similar to this but without the kit:
