Put my GPZ500 on eBay recently, added a footnote that stupid offers and questions in 'txt' would be ignored. Within an hour of listing it I had a message saying "What is ur number m8, wud like to talk about bike". Against my better judgement (and foolishly) I rang him, and not only was he an illiterate fool, he appeared to be an eastern european fool and I could barely understand him. Immediately he asked what my "lowest price" was, and then asked me a load of questions which were all clearly answered in the auction listing. I said I'd knock £100 of my buy it now price if he came and bought it that day, and the cheeky fecker then said he'd want another £50 off as he had to travel from Bristol to Plymouth (two hours max). I politely told him I was no longer interested in doing a deal outside eBay, so he could bid if he wanted it.

A few days later a lad from Leeds got in contact with me and was really keen to buy the bike. He organised a train ticket for the next morning which cost him £150 eek. Picked him up from the station and took him home to see the bike which he was blown away with. He needed to sort insurance so spend half an hour on the internet sorting it out and was more than happy to give me the full asking price. Made him a bacon butty as he hadn't eaten and then we went for a quick blast across the moors so he could get used to the bike and then he headed home to Leeds. He sent me a text saying he'd got home safely and that he was delighted with the bike. Probably one of the nicest people you could hope to meet, absolutely sincere and no BS.

Great sale. Now will you tell us what it was?!
Nope! all that will do is start the debate...

he paid too much for it...

you should have asked a £1000 more....
Well not really. The car is sold now, for a price you and the buyer were happy with. I don't see any further debate arising. Your call though obviously.

I can see quite a lot of debate arising as pistonheads is a playground for point scoring on the most pedantic of points !

It all depends if the cars worth asking price, if it's as mint as stated then the buyers would be ripping the op's arms of at the bargain before them. I suspect it's ever so slightly overpriced.

Never understood the 'never pay the asking price' mentality. Surely a car is worth what you are willing to pay for it as a buyer? The obsession with having to achieve some discount on a price arbitrarily assigned to the car by the seller seems a bit redundant, particularly if the car is underpriced to start with for its condition (it does happen!)

Of the 18 cars I've bought I only payed asking price for one of them; of course, I'll haggle like anyone else, but there are a fair chunk that I'd have been prepared to hand over the full amount just to secure the car, as it was exactly what I wanted and 'worth' every penny of the asking price to me. FWIW, I've sold a few performance cars to fellow PHers over the years, and a couple of buyers were quite happy to give me the asking price when they viewed with no haggling attempt because the pricing was realistic to start with.
Exactly, I was fully prepared and came with the full cash, asked if you'd take less (as it'd be rude not to) and when you said it was a good deal at full price, i agreed so paid in full! Hardly rocket science.

I recently bought a bike advertised on PH, it was exactly what I was after with all the toys I would have put on myself and I thought it was very reasonably priced.
After chatting to the guy for a while and he had said he was after the asking price I said that I would like to buy it and I could bring cash the following weekend. He said he could only make it the w/e after (about a 10 day wait) so I said, in that case I quite liked 'round figures' and would he take £xxxx? which represented a £75 reduction to which he agreed.
When I went to pick it up I gave him the cash and he gave me a couple of 'extras' he had forgotten about and we were both happy bunnies smile

I'm starting to think the car doesn't exist.

I'd call for a custard test, but I'm sure the car will be sold to the man from Holland for the full asking price this weekend thus conveniently proving the OP was right.
Holy st, I'm a wizard.

That is a great collection. I now see your point in not being in any rush to sell...

Ah, its none of those... :-)

It did sell however for the full amount. The guy came over from Holland last Friday, he flew into Birmingham, took the train and I picked him up from the station. he looked all over the car and said he was pleased and it was as described and as he had seen in the high res pictures I had sent him. We went to my bank and he paid me cash inside the bank, and into my account. We had a bit of lunch, talked cars, and he set off to get the ferry home.

On Saturday he called me to say he had arrived safely back home after an uneventful journey, and was very pleased with the car. I had loaned him my old SatNav which he had already posted back to me.

I am glad I waited for the full price, but even more that I waited for the right buyer who I was happy to sell the car to, rather than some arrogant twonk who thought he was gods gift in negotiation!

I stand corrected. Well done sir.

I just sold my bike, full asking price no quibbles.

Personally I feel it was my honest and very enticing advert which I placed on ebay - I left no reason not to buy the bike hence it sold.

Money was in my account 2 days before he came to pick it up.
