In places like India or China the rich don't allow the poor to basically get educated. It stops them from causing disruption and having their own ideas/agendas.
This is a perfect example of why they do that.
What a strange post. This is a perfect example of why they do that.
Why don't you fk off to India...
I believe that a welfare system is needed to protect the unfortunate, those who are unable to work for some reason, I do not believe it should be available to to those who do not want to work.
However we are also faced with a situation where there are not enough jobs for everyone in the country and a market place where we are not competitive for exports, how do you solve this??
I don't think you can and if you know how it can be solved then please speak up.

He was saying that in India they don't educate poor people as a way of stopping them expressing their views.

I don't agree that the wealthy suppress the education of the poor in India to stop them complaining. I honestly think that the poor in India don't complain because they have aspirations and are willing to work, If your country has no welfare system then the only way to not be poor is to earn money and the only way to earn money is to work hard. In our country you can have a good standard of living by manipulating the welfare system and the welfare system is seen as a right instead of a safe guard. He was saying that in India they don't educate poor people as a way of stopping them expressing their views.
Apologies if my point was not clear, all my views are my own obviously and sometimes they make more sense in my head than they do in print.

What makes you think poor people in India don't complain? India is also living in the wake of the caste system which by it's very nature suppresses those from poorer backgrounds.

What constitutes a Good Standard of Living is subjective, I come from a farming background so my idea of a good standard of living is pretty low, but general point is that we have a welfares system which is designed to help the vulnerable in our society which is also open to abuse. if it were stricter then the people who really need it might get a better service? What makes you think poor people in India don't complain? India is also living in the wake of the caste system which by it's very nature suppresses those from poorer backgrounds.
I have no doubt people complain in India, the difference between here and there is that they probably have something to complain about, again apologies that distinction was not clear in my earlier post.
I'm glad the piece of st got caught.
Part and parcel of owning a nice car (Even my old Clio GT got kicked, keyed and spat on many times) as there's always going to be some that wants to destroy what you have because deep down they know they have no chance of ever owning anything worth a second look. Worked hard for your toys but cant own them without some jealous defacing it.
Real shame about the article, personally I think shes no better than a racist.

Let's not forget that a great many people fall through the cracks in countries without a welfare system. It isn't just a case of whether you work hard as to an individuals ability to lift themselves out of poverty. An awful lot of it is down to luck and the circumstances to which you are born into.

Some people in this country do claim what they can and run away from what they owe because they think the world owes them a living. A lot do genuinely try to do the right thing and work hard but still struggle. Not everyone has the same educational opportunities and encouragement and help in applying for jobs. Getting on in life can often just be about having a confident, or even brash, attitude and a good line in bullst. It's easy to stand in judgment of people when you've done all right for yourself but being better off doesn't necessarily just mean you're trying harder than other people.

bks yourself. You're born in Malawi in a slum having to look after your brothers and sisters because your parents died of AIDS. Please explain how you'd get yourself out of poverty there?
I am going to have to eat humble pie here. I thought he said in countries with a Welfare system, not without, and I know that there also cases where people can't, but in the context of the thread I was replying, and that was wrong. gizlaroc said:

She's still combating sexism by sneering at middle aged lawyers for being "Old men." Everybody knows the best way to stave of one form of discrimination is with another.Blakewater said:

A guy I know got paid a fortune spending twelve months away welding on oil rigs. If you're prepared to make sacrifices, there's money to be made.
Yeah you hit the nail on the head, I spent 14 out 16 weeks offshore this summer but was making a fortune, I don't have a wife or kids so for now I am prepared to sacrifice my time at home in the pursuit of a better standard of life / more expendable income, however when my situation changes, I will also change what I am willing to sacrifice. Make Hay While The Sun ShinesI emailed them on the day of the article and got an email on monday which was generic liking to other articles which balance the papers view.
They are essentially stirring it so they get content for their letters page. I'ld put 50p on them having the response email written prior to the article being published.
it's almost daily mailish
