Prostester advocating criminal damage to 4x4s
Discussion
Mr Rose, have you bothered to read anything like this:-

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=141&t=343707
Where you might find accurate science and arguments that dispute your theories?
Once again I have to ask, how can you become so animated and get so involved yet know so little about a subject that affects everyone?

Just been checking out his website. He states 10 reasons not to drive an urban 4x4. I give you reason 10...
10. People won't think you are an 'idiot'
In an ordinary car, you won't get dirty looks from all and sundry when you drive around town, won't have to avoid eye contact with bus passengers, and cyclists won't mouth obscenities as they squeeze past you in a queue of traffic. As an extra bonus, other drivers might occasionally let you pull out ahead of them.
...what a good reason thought up by well rounded and educated people!!!
Can't wait to meet this bloke (got an A bar on order for my L200 for just such an occasion!!)
Cheers
Jon (Lives near Bristol in the country and drives a 4x4 so clearly making me an idiot when I drive into Bristol)

Ooh, cyclists mouthing obscenities at me. Bus passengers giving me dirty looks.
That'll cause me distress and psychological trauma, oh yes.
Look, Mr Rose. I bought a BMW. And then another, bigger one.
What other people think of me really, really isn't a concern of mine.
six pack......agreed.......just let me have a go once you have peeled him off your L200.
I am now going to laugh at people who drive 2 wheel drive cars in the country.
Also as posted earlier I will drive my Caterham at full speed so I am using it to it's full potential, so that should make MR Rose happy and when flashed by a scamera I will merely point out that fast is what it is built for. Thus the speeding fine will be dropped....marvellous!!!
(right I'll get back to the real world now...exactly where Rose isn't)

That's brilliant! I can say that I've never once been given a dirty look etc... in my 4x4 (which is actually a 4x2 unless off-road, so presumably that doesn't count???). In fact other 4x4s tend to let me out at junctions etc.. as do I to them - perhaps we feel a certain bond and comradeship due to the (alleged) hatred of us from all others on the road?
Incidentally, my 4x4 is in fact a 4x2 (ie. same as 'normal' cars) so what makes it a such a target? What differentiates it from 'normal' cars? It's reasonably compact (no larger than a BMW 3-series or Mondeo), it does 30mpg, serviced and insured correctly etc...
Is it the fact that it's tall? Or has chunky tyres? Or bullbars? Or Spotlights? I'd really like to know what makes a vehicle a target for this person's campaign. Is a Subaru a target (4x4)? What if we added spotlights to it? How about a Van? They're very tall and take up lots of road space, while achieving low MPG. How about a large Mercedes (15 to 20 mpg)?
There seems to be little logic behind his rantings, it merely sounds like jealousy, but I'd love to hear a reasonably argued response (sits back and waits as the tumbleweeds roll past).

I've tried and failed to elicit a rational response.
It is the politics of envy; having failed to achieve anything in life, people like him simply spend their days trying to take away others' spoils of hard work and success.
Welcome back David!
Good to see that you have failed to address any of the several pages of questions directed at you - could it be because you have no answer because you are blindly guided by the politics of envy and have no rational thought or background on the matter?
It would be wonderful to see if you actually have a brain and can debate the subject rather than just regurgitating cherry-picked parts of press releases which have no real grounding.
Typical eternal student, living in an idealistic little dream world.
Get a job and find out what it's like in the real world.

Just been he phone to my mate who has a Bentley flying spur, jokingly told him that as a driver of a 4x4 not to drive into Bristol.. His response rather predictably is not suitable for this forum, however if you see a Bentley on the M5 with both a bucket of mud and a mature student impaled on the front, plese give the driver a wave...after all I know him.

'4x4s to be priced off the road'
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/01/12/nmotors12.xml
"Gas-guzzling sports cars, 4x4s and people carriers could be priced off the road within five years after a crackdown on carbon emissions to be announced by the European Commission this month.
The average new car in 2012 will have to emit no more than 120 grams of carbon per kilometre under proposals to be announced by Stavros Dimas, the European Environment Commissioner. The rule change could add more than £3,300 to the cost of a vehicle.
He said yesterday that they were needed because of the failure of European car makers to keep to a voluntary agreement signed in 1998 to reduce emissions by 25 per cent by 2008. They have managed 13 per cent and the agreement ends next year".

Wow, something factual at last, well done you <patpat>
By the way, you do realise that means up UNTIL 1012, we can have as many 4x4's and sports cars as we want at standard price rates?
So guys, NOWS THE TIME TO BUY THEM!
And by the end of this year, 2007, everyone will realise what a complete farce the whole "human generated claimte change" thing actually is. Note the cracks are appearing already!!
etc
How do you know that a 4x4 parked in Bristol doesnt belong to a farmer who spends most of his time up to his ears in mud?
Families with 3-4 kids and dogs etc can buy a people carrier, many of which have similar emissions to 4x4's
Last but not least your efforts should be targeted at the Govt policy makers not members of the public - you will find that a safer option if you know what I mean.

"Turned above mode on as it seems especially apt due to Rose's very trendy haircut"
Actually unless you are running LSD's your 4x4 is more likely to be a 1x4 on the blackstuff and 2x4 on the brownstuff

Rose, feel free to answer any of the questions at any time, normally we are not such a bad lot so give us a break eh :snigger:

Day of Action Against 4x4s in Bristol
climate chaos | South West England | transport
Other activist groups in Bristol want to take part in a city wide day of action against 4x4s. Please join us.
1) Launch Date/1st action: We will launch as a campaign on 28th and 29th of January. The Sunday (28th) is for people who work during the week and the Monday (29th) gives us the opportunity to do an action at a ‘School Run’ (maybe at one of the private schools in Bristol?). The theme of the actions will be: OIL ADDICTS (and the side effects of this addiction) and OIL ZOMBIES. This should give people lots of scope for creativity and fun in making 4x4s uncool and getting the 4x4 drivers to think about their (very unwise) vehicle choice. Are 4x4 drivers in fact zombies who are: a) killing pedestrians and cyclists 2) blocking the streets of Bristol 3) addicted to oil, with the deadly side effects of Global Warming and the crazy ‘Oil War’ in Iraq? You get the idea, dress up as a Zombie for the day as this will give the media lots of great pics and freak out the 4x4 drivers! If you don’t want to dress up, that’s no problem.
Other groups (such as the Bristol Cycling Campaign) have expressed an interest in taking part in a joint ‘Day of Action’, when they can also protest against 4x4s in Bristol in their own way. So how about declaring the 28th of January a ‘Day of Action Against 4x4s in Bristol’? If any other groups want to talk to us about what they would like to do on that day, that’s great but if you just want to do your own thing, then that is OK with us too.
2) We will hold a planning meeting on the 7th of January to co-ordinate the day of action on the 28th. Venue TBA. Please email in if you would like to attend so we have an idea of numbers. bristol4x4alliance at yahoo.co.uk
3) Lots of media interest. Below are two articles published in the Bristol Evening Post on the 20th of December. The hostility of the 4x4 drivers in their comments is quite funny. The logic of their ‘argument’ is that David Rose is a ‘mature student’ and that is some kind of criminal offence! The Day of Action on the 28th should generate allot in media coverage – print/radio/tv etc.
4) We support the ‘Transport Manifesto for Bristol’.
Hope you all have a great Christmas break and we look forward to seeing you in January.
Kind Regards

Don't think we ever said that being a mature student was a criminal offence. I think the general consensus was GET A JOB AND STOP USING UP PRECIOUS OXYGEN SPOUTING YOUR FACTLESS GUFF! I for one may have to organise a meeting with a customer on the day of his 'action' so that I can drive my 4x4 into Bristol and meet this pillock.

Actually, that was a serious issue IIRC.
I stand corrected. (was only young at the time...) How was it resolved?
EDIT - seemed to be more of a problem than I though (just wikipedia'd it) Solved by a temporary ban on 4x4's........

How very true - I wonder what contribution this gentleman is making to society in his 'studies'?
I'd be quite pleased to have a bucket of mud poured over my 4x4 - it would really look the part then and also it'd hide up the rusty bits
