Have you seen This one?
I steered Joel to go and see it, before he bought his black one. The report came back as all good, but must try harder. It would have been a great private purchase at £9k.I have found a great one on eBay - CSL looks (supposedly genuine items), new bearings, ARP conrod bolts, headgasket, valve guides and cams, and a few other bits.
The lady of the house said though - "I ain't driving a manual in Central London!" Sigh...
Have given up on getting an Imola Red one, so the search has been a bit easier. Will be seeing about 4 by Sunday. Have also been given an ultimatum - "if you really want/need one, then buy the best one you think you can and stop faffing about and wasting mine and ours kids' time"... Wimmin', eh?
Some carbon buckets are a cheap and easy mod on an E46.
Personally, I need / prefer the rear seat access and heated bottom in winter.
Quick steering racks (purple tag) are cheap and easy to fit if you really want it.
Carbon airbox is a bit more pricey, but not prohibitive.
Likewise a big brake kit.
You can buy the whole shebang used on cutters regularly for even less.
After that, struggling to see what more you really need in terms of an engaging, practical daily that can comfortably attack a trackday?

and then...
...would love to drop a N62B48 in a E46 M3. It would have to be the original more powerful and rev-happy engine from the E53 X5 4.8iS - 7000rpm limit. I know that a LS7 is even better, but I am one of these old farts who expects to see BMW under the bonnet on the rocker covers if it says BMW on the bonnet badge
While we're bearding on matters E46... the seats in the CSL look like Recaro PPs to me but they fold to let you get in the back.
This is what I want for my car, did Recaro produce an aftermarket version of these?
Also, thought you all might like to see a pic of my 12C which was de-diamond-cut-ed last weekend. 100 beard points to anyone (except Cheb who helped me choose it) who can guess the shade of silver.

Very nice indeed. Will be interested to hear how you get on with it.Re M3s of any order: when used as a daily doing around 50 miles a day they will cost you more than you think. After a while they will cost you more than you want to pay.

Not not far enough to get a child seat in the back.
Don't ask me how I found that one out!
I can imagine. It's tight getting the 2 child seats in with the standard front seats, let alone folding myself in to do up their seatbelts. Don't ask me how I found that one out!
I do wonder some days whether I should have gone for the e39 option.

This is always a danger with a performance car as a daily (or anything in life generally), especially if you do a lot of miles. There's almost no such thing as a perfect compromise I guess!ETA: Nice one Joel - much prefer the new colour on those wheels Not that I'd kick a standard 12C outta my metaphorical automotive bed

In a pub conversation with Jeremy C we worked out my E36 cost more to run than his 996 GT3 based on the cost of servicing / ongoing upkeep.ETA: Nice one Joel - much prefer the new colour on those wheels Not that I'd kick a standard 12C outta my metaphorical automotive bed
You can get cheap and brisk, it's called a 350Z. Veritable buttons to run.
